Another delicious lunch at this delightful, friendly and efficient restaurant right in the heart of Exeter's new Princesshay development.
My mother and I called in today for a much- needed lunch after some heavy sightseeing in rather dreary weather and the staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient, despite being at least three waiting staff down and some kitchen staff too, I gathered. Our own waitress was a lovely Polish girl who was very well organised and efficient, despite being clearly under a lot of pressure and recovering from the 'flu!
The manager (on Sunday, October 26th) was a lovely girl called Becky who was doing a good job of keeping the packed restaurant happy and the staff moving well and efficiently.
The food was good, too. But that's what I've come to expect of this very good and newish addition to Exeter's range of good restaurants.

Excellent new restaurant for the growing and vibrant Exeter dining scene. Really good staff, delicious food and very authentic decor. Of course one's NOT is Paris, but this one feels pretty close to the real thing across the channel! Really helpful (and pretty!) staff, all of whom, girls and boys alike, seem to make a huge effort to welcome you and make sure you have a good time at this lovely branch of Cafe Rouge.

Cafe Rouge really does feel like a typical French brasserie. The food is good and again typically French .... delicious steak frites (yummy chips), fishcakes and chips etc etc. You can also just go there for a cup of coffee. It tends to be busy and therefore quite noisy, but not too noisy to have a conversation. Service mixed, but I had lunch there recently on a Friday when it was very busy and the service was faultless. I had the most delicious sea bass on a bed of vegetables.

A very nice place to have lunch with a friend. The food was a little expensive but was very good. There was lots of choice even for vegetarians and the staff were friendly and the new location in Princesshay is a big improvement.

This is such a lovely cafe/restaurant. It is slightly on the pricey side but you do get what you pay for and it is a really nice experience to be in the place itself. The food and drinks are fantastic and when you go there, you are guaranteed a great time out - very relaxed and warm atmosphere.

Much nicer in their new location in the redeveloped Princesshay.Very very nice staff, willing to have a nice chat with a complete stranger while they're serving you and will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable.Apparently the council is looking in at getting in covent garden style street performers to perform in the "square" outside the Cafe Rouge (where the coloured glass stones are), so I'll look forward to that as I've always loved Covent Garden.

I very recently popped into this restaurant for the very first time. I went in with a selection of friends and we were sat in are own area. I thought the restaurant was very spacious, clean and very well decorated with a lovely french theme.I was really pleased with the menu as I am one not really for french food, but they had a definate english twist on there to choose from which was good. I did feel the service was a little bit slow at times, but overall the food, drinks and general service was good. The prices I thought were very reasonable and will definately be going back again at some point.

This new location gives an immediate feel of spaciousness, both in and outside, mixed with a French atmosphere - a big improvement on Queen Street.Plenty of choice too, and a chance to converse without being overheard from neighbouring tables. Tarte Citron was a favourite. Nice to be free of traffic, and an opportunity to watch the world go by.

I went in for a glass of wine with a friend early in the summer and was seriously impressed. The interior is beautifully decorated and there's seating outside on the square. I had a quick look at the menu and it looks pretty extensive and all at good prices. I'm sure anyone could find something fantastic to eat. The house white is one of the best house wines ive tasted and isnt too expensive by the glass. The staff were extremely friendly and very capable. I'll definitely be going again.

I recently went to the new Cafe Rouge in Exeter's Princesshay. The restaurant itself is spacious and bright with great views at the rear to the cathedral. The food is fine - pretty much what you would expect from Cafe Rouge - the menu hasn't changed in ages but the food is of a good standard, well cooked and nicely presented. My only critisism is the speed of service. Despite there being no fewer than 14 visible staff (almost enough for one a table!) they failed to clear our starter plates before bringing out the main course and we had to wait an age for the bill. All in all not bad but there seemed to be a general feeling or disorganisation amongst the staff - maybe they were training?
