Probably the most prestigious hotel in Edinburgh it is certainly its most luxurious and expensive. Situated on the corner of Princes St and South Bridge the Balmoral is absolutely spectacular as it dominates the skyline. The bar is open to the public however and the restaurant is so posh there is a harp player during dinner. If you've go the money....

One of if not THE best hotel in Edinburgh. Practically a landmark in the city, probably the nicest place to stay if visiting the city. The service is some of the best I have ever experienced and I have been to hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Charming employees and some great views from the rooms on the upper floors. Restaurant is brilliant but pricy, and you can eat there as a hotel guest or member of the public.

The Balmoral is an Edinburgh Institution. Its a wonderful grand old hotel, where all the stars stay when they're in town. Its expensive, but they do really good funtions and events, and these are well staffed with really yummy food.

I had my work night out in the function sweet here. the food was delicious and the dj's if a little cheesy, were a good laugh. lovely old traditional decor, well worth a visit, and keep your eyes peeled, you may spot a celeb!

My stay in the Balmoral Hotel was incredible and offered a real insight as to how the otherside live. The facilities were outstanding and the rooms beautiful! Upon entrance to the hotel you are greeted by very welcoming staff who take your luggage to your room. The pool is very relaxed and quiet and the bar that surrounds the pool is self help. The decor is very traditional and yet somehow maintains a modern twist. It is ideally located in the centre of Edinburgh near Princes Street, meaning it is perfect for a shopping break. It is also right next door to Edinburgh Waverly station which makes it very accessible. However, the rooms do come with a hefty price tag but some offers are available at offpeak times.

An incredible stay that is a must if you are planning a trip to Edinburgh.

Superb experience that cannot be recommended enough!

Thanks to the joys of lastminute.com, this 5 star hotel can be a little more affordable than you'd think. Sumptuously furnished and oozing class, it is an elgeant and, most iomportantly, relaxing experience from start to finish.

The rooms are beautifully finished, and the beds almost criminally comfortable. The one let down (and perhaps nod to our cut-price tickets) was the fact that a number of the rooms look in on a central courtyard that houses what seems to be a generator in a rather ugly concrete atrium. But that is a blip in an otherwise spotless experience. Breakfast was excellent and highly varied, while the staff were courteous, friendly and efficient. The pool facilities are quite something, too.

While the bar is rather pricey (and, perhaps understandable, it doesn't do to order Irish whiskey) it's to be expected and can be forgiven.

The only down side is, if I ever go to Edinburgh again, I couldn't possibly stay anywhere else.
