Now I'm not necessarily a vintage-shopper, but my other half certainly is! When we visited Real McCoy it had that strange 'old clothes' smell to it, immediately putting me off. But once I realised that they sell more than just great coats and ball gowns, and had a cafe as well as an upstairs department I was enthralled by the little shop. Real McCoys in fact lured me in not by their clothes, but their milkshakes! I even managed to find a cliche old high-school jersey-jacket that you see 'jocks' parade around in (only £25). I enjoyed the novelty of rooting through their old-school 80's t-shirts, and finding nifty little bits of clothing I wouldn't ever find in any other shop.

An Exeter legend, perfect for vintage clothing, retro clothing, even fancy dress clothing

at the bottom of the town set in a roofed area, full of quirky shops lies the Real McCoy. There are two floors full of second, third or fourth hand of retro and ecclectic clothing! This is place for the confident dresser, i wish i had the guts to wear some of these clothes. You could see Kate Moss rumaging through the garments, its that kind of place!

What a rare gem of a place The Real McCoy is!Beautiful setting, refreshingly polite staff and a lovely cafe. The shop on the ground floor sells vintage clothing, you can pick up some great stuff there, fantastic for fancy dress parties. Long gloves, gowns, hats, hairpieces and authentic shoes! Almost too good to touch! Upstairs they have a shop with new clothing in, hoodies, jeans, novelty T's. All abit pricey but there often is a sales rack. The balcony area is where this place comes to life! Vintage leather coats and jackets short and long, trousers, and some surprising garments can be found up there. I once got a beautiful short, fitted, plum leather jacket from there for £15! Bargain. Tip - Put a dry cleaning fee aside as alot of their garments do smell abit musty, which is to be expected for the price tags. The Real McCoy, love it!

Two floors of vintage, retro and new clothing and accessories. A plethora of 1920s-1980s original costume including Biba, Quant and Ozzie Clark. Also, they have a bar with nice offer of cakes, coffee and all the other stuff. I liked also because the staff was polite.

A great place for a rummage. Brilliant vintage clothes and accessories (gloves, jewellery, scarves and bags) as well as a cafe downstairs - good for a veggie breakfast. The cafe prices are very reasonable. The Real McCoy is something of an institution in Exeter now as it has been here for many years - good for fancy dress as well.

The Real McCoy's is one of Exeter's best businesses. There is a cafe downstairs that serves food and coffee at reasonable prices (their English breakfast is the perfect way to start a day after a heavy night out) with friendly staff and quick service. Next door there is a formal wear shop with suits, hats, dresses and masqeurade masks to name but a few products. The items range in price vastly - some items are easily affordable, but some can be shockingly expensive. Upstairs is a retro clothes store with relatively inexpensive clothes, but all unique and interesting. There is also a fancy dress section and the blacony, which sells old, slightly shoddy clothes for just a few pinds each (faux fur jackets are £5 for example.) The Balcony is the ideal place to go to grab an item for a fancy dress party, and has saved me forking out loads on costumes many a time. You just need to have a bit of a rummage.

The cafe area is lovely, although the seating areas can be alittle cramped at time - it can get very busy. The service is pretty quick with a good selection of food availiable - the cajun chicken skewers with flatbread is lovely!. Staff are friendly & dressed smartly - which is a nice touch. They also do lovely hot chocolates too. There is a bargain balcony upstairs (obviously), which is the sale rail part - lots of random clothes - men & womens on offer. good selection of clothing upstairs in the main area also - abit pricey on occassion - £15 for a vest? Small fancy dress section upstairs - wigs, outfits that kinda thing. The downstairs area is full of suits, ballgowns and lovely outfits to hire. The girl who is usually behind the counter in this section is lovely - really helpful, friendly & so very stylish! It's definatley worth a look as it's not your typical store. have a look around the other shops within the parade
