Great location - literally a 5minute walk from town which is fab on a night out as there's no need for a hefty taxi fare! Also very close to the Uni gym which is really handy, and close to Leazes Park which is lovely on a nice sunny day. I stayed there a few times when my boyfriend lived there in his first year at uni and he loved it. There's always a party going on in Ricky Road, and everyone mixes between flats so it seems like a great place for meeting people. All self-contained flats with a kitchen and a bathroom.

Richardson Road is definately known as the party accommodation at newcastle University. Flats usually comprise of 5 or 6 bedrooms and you share a communal area and kitchen. its the cheapest of all of the accommodation at newcastle university and you have to decide whether you want the lifestyle or nice living accommodation. the rooms are pretty small and the buildings are quite strangely designed with wierd triangle windows. The good side is however its the closest accommodation to the uni only 5 mins walk away, even less if you are in the medical or dental school and the university gym is right next door. there isnt much parking but its also only about a 10 minute walk away from the city centre which is handy for shopping and you wont need a taxi after a night out so there is little need for a car.
Great for students who want to save their money for partying and want to be able to roll out of bed 5 minutes before lectures.

I've just finished my first year at Newcastle University, living at Richardson Road or 'ricky road' as it's more commonly known. Richardson road is basically what you'd expect from University accommodation; the flats are of pretty average standard but they're perfect for a poor student and once you get some posters up (probably stolen from a club!) and a few home touches they're great! And it's in a great location - 5/10minutes from University and town and 2 minutes from Castle Leazes (another student accommodation) and Leazes park which is perfect for a run or a picnic in summer - watch out for the cows that roam round the field though! The staff are always helpful and the accommodation also has a 24hour security number which is very useful, in addition the site also has a laundrette, bike storage, the University gym and is a minute away from a Londis.
The only thing i disliked about being in Richardson road was that if you don't get on with your naighbours you're pretty much stuck with them for a year which can be quite annoying, especially if they're really loud and enjoy having parties until 4 in the morning when you've got an exam the next day.
Ignoring the few annoying ones though, Richardson Road has a 'feel good' friendly party atmosphere about it, especially in summer when parties often spill outside and many people have bbqs and play games in the sun.

Having just moved out of Richardson road after living there for a year, i have a great opinion of the place. There is a great variety of people from all over the country and the world which make your time there very enjoyable. The student life there is brilliant, regular parties spill out of the flats, anyone is welcome to joion in the fun. BBQ's are braught out in the summer months whenever there is a bit of sunshine, there is a large open green space where many people sunbathe or play games etc. Some people even choose to do there work outside in the sun. The university's sports centre is also very close to the halls.
During my stay at 'ricky road' i found all the staff very helpful, if anything ever broke or you had and problems with anything they would be there to help in a flash.

The best Halls to be in by far. Self-catering so a nice litlle kitchen and unlike may other halls a social area with seating. It is small but big enough for 6. There are around 12 to 14 flats in a block so great opportunity to meet lots of poeple. Really close to uni only 5- 10 miunte walk. Big grass patches everywhere so great in the summer to chill out. Quite nosy all year but this just adds to the lively student hubub.

In my opinion, Richardson (Ricky) Road is the best halls of residence to live in at Newcastle University. You live in a flat which you share with 5 other people and in a block of about 6 flats so that means that even if you dont get on with your flat, there are plenty of people to meet. Its so easy to meet people and great if you love going out and partying. Its in a fantastic locatoin, I can actually see the gym and sports hall from my window as well as being such a short walk from town and the lecture halls. The flats are basic but what more do you need? There is a kitchen and a living area and a bathroom with a shower, toilet and wash basins. Choose Ricky Road!

Richardson Road is a great place to live if you enjoy the typical student's hard-partying lifestyle and would like to live in a lively, friendly area during your time at university, however it is extremely basic and needs a lot of photos/posters/other personal touches to stop your room looking and feeling like a prison cell. Also, because it is so cheap the accommodation office makes their money from fining students for the stupidest things, for example we were fined to replace a fire extinguisher that had apparently been used, although they never actually replaced it, and a friend was fined £100 for a tiny chewing gum stain on the carpet. Therefore for location and value for money, I would recommend Ricky Road, but you have to be careful not to give them any excuse to fine you.

these student halls are one of the biggest in newcastle with nearly 1000 residents. they have the perfect location right next to the university gym and 10 minute walk for the university itself. they are based on 6 people sharing a small communal area/kitchen, 1 toilet and 1 shower.

Richardson Road Halls are one of the biggest student halls of residence behind Castle Leazes. They are positioned right outside the University Gym and sports facilities and only 5 mins from the Uni itself. Students tend to love there time at Richi Road as it is a very social environment and there is always someone to talk with or just hang out. There are 6 flats with 6 rooms each per block which means its very easy to get to know people from day one!
