According to the Guardian, this restaurant is "notable for yummy retro Italian food and restrained prices." I don't know enough about Italian food to substantiate the "retro" element. But it is very good food served in a friendly and leisurely manner. The surroundings are modern without being imposing, and the staff allowed us to go upstairs before 7.30pm so we enjoyed the view as well. Extensive wine list.

Lamb was tender, crumbed chicken a bit dry, but the accompanying veg were first class. Pannacotta and tiramisu rich and full of flavour.

A service charge is added automatically to your bill. Up to the customer what he does with it.

Not the cheapest meal in town, but the quality justified the tab.

Dinner with good friends

sReview_RatingImg rating on 15/09/2008 by Nigel C (10 reviews)

Dinner with friends on a Saturday night in the pedestrian favoured Princesshay. My first supper at Strada IIve lunched here once before. Well attended restaurant- book in good time.

A two storey venue. A statement of a building. Glass wall fronted, cube like and fabulously stylish. Fantastic view of the cathedral from the smoke free terrace upstairs (not used at night). Open yet intensely intimate. A combination of deep masculine colours, appealing textures and fabrics, comfortable bench seating in cosy booths, dimly lit and impeccably dressed tables, and moody, modern, vibrant music, played just ever-so-slightly-loud, creates an intense and heady atmosphere.

Our German waiter glided effortlessly like an ethereal spectre in the gloom. Pompless and efficient delivery. The house red wine, warm and silky smooth. Warm and crisp Aglio Schiacciatella and mixed olives greedily devoured (buy 1 between 2 min.). The risotto di verdure perfectly cooked(again), Tiramisu moist, light & divine. Slight interpretation issues ordering black coffee. Good portions. Ave. 25 per head. All enjoyed their meal. Enough choice for the non-meat eater.

The clientele mixed. Sober, pre-club hens and students, well heeled couples. The elegant. The mature.

A satisfying three hours of food pleasure in good company. A good place to start night for the young and a great place to end for the old(er). Good Italian food. Good website. Good restaurant. Dress for the occasion. Ciao.

Love it! Good food, good service, up-to-date atmosphere. Why does their card say "Excellent Pizza"? I know a Vogue review will impress some, but for a broad-based Italian it's misleading.

I can't fault it! The restaurant is brand new and all the staff are equally enthusiastic to please, their professional and attentive manner adds to the atmosphere that is Strada. It's classy decor, beautiful colours, flowing layout and mezzanine level are all factors that add to the overall elegance of the restaurant. The menu is fantastic and competitively priced and I most certainly will be visiting again soon to try some more perfectly cooked and presented Italian cuisine. It's amazing the type of people Princesshay has brought out of the woodwork in Exeter, just where did they frequent beforehand?

Had a really good lunch here this week. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with comfortable seating, it is very new so should appear clean and well cared for - and it does. The food was superb, my penne pasta dish with mozzarella was very good as was the wine. One of our party had a risotto which was also delicious. Reasonably priced considering the quality of the food and location. The staff were very friendly and professional. Will definately go back soon.

I always think there are certain clues to whether or not a restaurant is 'up to the mark.' One is its water policy - I hate being bullied into buying bottled water. As soon as we were seated four frosted glass bottles of water were placed on our table - oh! oh! I thought; but no - complementary. A good start. The next good news was the mozzarella. If an Italian restaurant can't find a supplier of good mozzarella then you'd probably better watch out for everything else - it was excellent. My main course was a seafood risotto - good, but could have done with a gentler hand on the spice jar - prawns and crawfish are easily overwhelmed. The service was friendly, if a little on the slow side. The atmosphere was good - modern English. The wine list was thoughtful and reasonably priced. For a 'chain' you manage to leave with the impression that the staff care that about what they do.

Decided to go to Strada last Thursday, hadn't booked, although no tables were available when we arrived, he took our mobile number, suggested we went next door for a drink and would ring as soon as a table was available. We got our table, the food was delicious, the atmosphere friendly, the staff very polite and attentive. The seafood pasta was delicious and I will be going again! Can't fault it!

This is one of the better Italian restaurants around. It is spread over two floors, and if you are on the top floor, you can have some nice views of the Cathedral. The menu is pretty standard for any Italian restaurant, with pasta and pizza dishes. The Spaghetti bolognaise is definitely recommended, and is quite reasonably priced at around £8. They also provide you with complimentary water, which is an added bonus.

I went at the weekend and was pleasently impressed! Situated in the cathedral the retsurant has an array of itilian style food! The main meals aren't that bad priced either at around 8-10 per main! The size of meals are good! The staff are excellent even though they were busy! would highly reccommend it!

This Italian style restaurant displays elegance and class, with beautifully decorated tables and bars and a outside balcony looking over Exeter Cathedral. It is a truely romantic restaurant. However, this class does not come cheaply. Although it is situated in a student town, a main meal will set you back around £10. It is definately a place for special occassions, and with exceptional service and well cooked food, you will get your money's worth.
