I applied and saw a large number of universities while trawling the UCAS site for somewhere vibrant yet academic where I would be hapy for three/four years. Notingham, in my opinion, has the perfect combination - with the city only 20 mins by bus away, yet a beautifully green campus with an enormous lake, Nottingham Uni combines picturesque with urban convenience ideally. The majestic yet modern buildings on the central campus and the multitude of high street shops in town and at the Students Union make it a great place to spend those uni days. The other great thing about Notingham is the nightlife. Being a Birmingham lass, it had a lot to live up to - and from a student budget terms - it does cheap and cheery very well (if you can cope with the sticky floors, slight odour and hoards of students) and contrary to popular belief it is usually quite safe. The contrast to that is the chic modern wine bars and lounges which are great for blowing a bit of cash and having a generally more pleasant night out.
