I attended both the highschool and the sixth form. An entrance exam had to be passed to gain a place in the highschool and places were allocated to those who passed in order of location (from nearest to furthest away) of where they lived. A definate must if you pass the exam as they have some of the best results in the country. The sixth form has required results, being 10 points (Where an A at GSCE is 3 points, a B 2 points etc), which I feel is rather low considering the high standards expected to be able to get into the highschool. The quality of the teaching is very good overall and the teachers do treat you more as equals when you get into the sixth form, making for a much more pleasent teaching/learning atmosphere. The prom's they hold at the end of highschool and sixth form were also fantastic (see pictures)! I wouldn't change where I went for the highschool or sixth form for the world. I doubt I would have ended up doing Law at a redbrick university were it not for BRGS.

I attended this school for 6th form and it was one of the best decisions I have made. The 6th form is run by T.J. Elkington - he really cares about his job and ensuring that students feel at home and progress well. Class sizes vary a lot, with maths classes at A level having up to 30 students (too many for a maths class in my opinion) and french and german classes having as few as 4 students. However, the school achieves excellent results in not only languages but also overall and including maths. The school has many new buildings including a new gym and a newish 6th form centre. I would reccomend this school to anyone who has the chance to go there, and definitely over paying options such as Bury Grammar.
