Ah google, search engine of the gods. Despite now being a big nasty global corporation, Google still provides what is in my view the best search engine (I have google.co.uk as my homepage). A simple search box which allows all the usual booleans such as AND when you want to find all the words, and OR when you want to find either term. Google also now has a large number of books and other publications for you to use online - fantastic when you don't have time to request a book from the library. In addition, the google scholar search engine is very useful when looking for journal articles and other academic papers.

I'll try and avoid stating the obvious too much here, nearly everyone with internet access uses Google. It has nearly always proven effective, no matter how obscure the topic I've searched for, and it has just got better as the years have gone on. One feature that perhaps most people are aware of but don't use is the advanced search option. Given that Google usually returns more hits than you'll possibly have time to check, this feature enables you to more precisely state what you're looking for, and is well worth checking out. You may be surprised how much time you'll save, going straight to something relevant rather than trawling through pages of garbage.

Google has to be my favourite search engine, simply for the simplicity of the website. :p
Whats good about it is that when you want to search for something to load up you dont have to wait around for the website to load up with pointless details that you dont care about.
Also it includes image searching and the shopping feature acts like a comparison website where you type in your product and google will list the price from different shops, i personally find that quite useful.

Google is fast and reliable and thats all you want from a search engine.

Everytime I use the internet I use Google ... its such a cool invention ... its the best search engine in the world ... can help you find anything on the web or any possible place ... I will be shocked if anybody has never used this ...

Google really is the number one search engine for me - the results are always ridiculously quick and very extensive and the servers have never been down when I've tried to use it. Googling something really is a very good way to find something. The other great thing about google is how it's linked to wikipedia, so if there's a neutral argument about ANYTHING, chances are it's the 2nd or 3rd result on google!

It's my homepage. It's that good. When I can't be bothered to type in the address I Google it. When I want to search for something, Google it. Once I discovered it I haven't used anything else since purely because nothing has been able to match the accuracy of the search. Google also provides useful services such as Google Earth which is an amazing tool for free, Google Maps, Google Moon....the list goes on.

I currently have igoogle as my homepage and its the most useful gadget. It's a customizeable googlepage where you can add small gadgets such as the news, flash games, date & time, calendar, notepad, wikipedia and dictionary search and much more.

My favourite search engine. I use Google any time I'm looking for something, it brings up a fantastic range of sites using your key words, and is usually able to leave out any irrelevant ones. Google images is also really good for finding pictures you're looking for. Google is also really good for eliminating any offensive sites, which is really good if kids need to use it.

The perfect search engine- separates your search into maps, images, we searches amongst others. It always gives you a rapid relevant list of searched sites, and is especially useful for pictures when you cant be bothered navigating through web sites for a photo of henry the eighth for example. Google is by the far the best search engine around principally due to its easy to navigate interface which gives a simple way to search photos, websites maps and much more. it easily trumps competition by its non aggressive advertising, and is noticable only by its 'Sponsered links'.

Google is the best search engine around! It is my first port of call when I want to find information instantly. A cool feature you may or may not know about is you can search (using words) any sum you want and it calculates it instantly! For example you type in 3899843837 multiplied by 2918342491 it pops up 1.138108 10 to the power 19. Brilliant!!! It is the integrated nature of the Google search engine that sets it apart from all the others and its simplicity that makes it so accessible. Anyone who is unsure of the internet or even advanced users would appreciate the effectiveness of this tool. Great work Google :D! 10/10

The best search engine available on the web, I use it regularly and always find it very helpful in finding what I want. I also use the image search regularly to find pictures. Spelling correction in search results is a good feature. The lack of advertising on the home page is also good. i find the regional searches useful if i am only looking for uk results.

The best search engine by a long way in my opinion. Not only does it offer a great search feature but allows you to define words or even see how many employees a particualr company it has. The google image search is alos brilliant finding you pictures of anything you need.

Well designed - simple idea and very effective. I like how they change the way google looks regualarly but without effecting the download speed. - The download speed is one of the many Google pluses as it is so quick, it searches the web in fractions of a second.

The recent additions like google maps and images have been a great plus for the site and the creators have continued bettering themselves with each addition.

Google is such a good search engine, and is by far the most popular, in fact it's a lot of peoples' homepage. The format is really simple and easy to use, and a range of things can be searched for, such as images, maps, news ect. I really cannot see how anyone can complain about google. It is such a good site, you can find almsot anyhting here as well as having such a great wideweb search you can also go to news to recieve news updates and images to go straight to pictures. Other inventions by google are that of google earth which is a great idea were you can delve the world via satelite.

It also has a very important "preferences" option, which allows you to filter your searches and acts as a blocker for any sites you may not want young children to see.

Whenever I search anything online I absaloutely always 'Google' it. You always get fast accurate results and can always manage to find what you are looking for. They also correct your spelling mistakes so you dont have to worry about getting the wording dead on. Fantastic.

You can't go wrong with google, as its a fairly solid search engine. The fact that it is built into most browsers now makes it even more convienient. As well as the usual search, you can also do a GoogleScholar search which is useful for me when doing essays in my university degree course as it is a way to search through academic journals.

'Google' is one of, if not the most popular search engine used by many to find out a variety of information. Google is a brilliant search engine which always gives you a variety of options no matter how obsecure your search is. Its always arranged well so that the most relevant is given first. The images search engine was so useful when i needed diagrams for my coursework and i love the way the homepage will have a specific theme according to the occasion. It is probably the most used and helpful search engine. it allows you to narrow your search down and i love the "i'm feeling lucky" button.

Well, where do i start? Google, the king of search engines, really needs no reviewing...it does what it says on the tin. Used by millions of people every day, type in anything you want and it'll give you hundreds and thousands of results, some of which will of useful, some of which probably wont. It's great fun though....try typing your name in and seeing what comes up, or play that game where you've got to think of something that'll only bring up one search result (it's harder than you think!). And the little 'Google' variations are always fun to look at, usually some old painters birthday or the anniversary of a war 200 years ago...not always the most interesting pieces of knowledge, but perfect for storing in the back of your mind under the title 'reserved for pub quiz questions'.....you know one day it'll come in useful!!

Not wanting to be considered a one trick pony, Google have recently branched out to Google Maps, which is already proving very popular. And they've already established Google Images, Google News and Google Mail as widely used and helpful services.

I use Google every day and i think it is a quick and easy way to search for anything that you want. I use it to find out locations, programme times, images etc. and i have not come across a faster search engine.

This is probably the most prestigious search engine on the internet. You can use it to search for almost anything. I personally think the general web search option is the best because it is most likely to give you the most results. However, often I find the image search is very good too, especially when I am looking for a fairly good image with very little time to look for one.

Not only is it my default homepage and the first search engine I use when I need to look something up, but I find all its other subpages very useful. To name a few: Language Tools are great for a rough translation, Google Maps have helped me find my way to places countless times, and the great "define: [word]" shortcut is a quick way to get various definitions of a word in different contexts.

Managing to make search sites cool, google features personalised homepages, the phenomenal google earth and google maps, and the best image search of the lot. It's probably also worth noting purely as the first search site to become a verb ('to google someone/thing').

One gripe, however. It is possible to be blacklisted by google, and there are ways and means to be bumped up the rankings. So, good as it is, the first few returns may not actually be the best for your search - they've just paid a bit more.
