Although I am probably biased as this was my Halls of Residence, I think it is one of the best in the University. There are 360 rooms in Birks Grange which are all single and en-suite. The halls have only been built recently and are all in great condition. There is an excellent maintenance and cleaning staff - rooms are cleaned once every two weeks and bathrooms every week. The cleaners are all lovely and really friendly and always willing to come back if you're still in bed when they arrive! There are 9 rooms on each corridor and each corridor is locked for added security. There are also cameras around the halls so it is really safe there. The rooms are all fairly large in comparison to most university rooms and the bathrooms have actual showers rather than wet rooms like some other halls.
Although the price is quite high (£156) breakfast and dinner is included (lunch is included at weekends) and I found that the food was usually quite nice. They always had a vegetarian option and there were always 4 or 5 other choices. There is a bar, The Boot, which wasn't too popular when I was there but it is reasonably priced. The resident tutors were really friendly and helpful and always around if needed.
Apart from the awful 'Cardiac Hill', it is only a short walk up to campus and about a 20 minute walk from the city centre.
This is a great Halls of Residence, with friendly staff and a great atmosphere to live in. For £140 per week, students get modern en suite accomodation, breakfast and dinner provided, as well as lunch at the weekend, and access to 'The Boot', the brillinant halls bar. The resident tutor scheme ensures that students feel safe during their time in halls, and provides assurance that somebody is on hand to care for the welfare of the students. These halls are just a short walk from the main Streatham campus, and just a twenty minute walk from Exeter city centre.
