As stated below, I have also been to quite a few student unions over the last 2 years, and by far i think that Leeds Union is the biggest. Like most unions the prices are cheap and affordable due to their customers been students, and they also sell other essentials that the normal student needs, books, paper, clothes etc. The union also provides entertainment everynight of the week, with something different each night, so there are no excuses for staying in.

Apparently the biggest student union in the country only to be rivaled by the one in Manchester. There are 4 nightclubs and bars within its walls as well as a large convenience store / supermarket, a gaming area and food outlets.

Of course i'm bias, as i did go to the university of leeds, but i have to say that leeds union is one of the best i've seen, having looked round several universities before i went and since. it has nightclubs, plenty of really nice eating establishments a massive shop and best of all a pasty shop! what more could you want?!

An outstanding university union - one of the big attractions at Leeds Uni. the main building is has bars, restaurants and cafes as well as other services, including counselling and housing advice. Prices are cheap - as it's aimed at students, but anyone can visit shops / cafes etc.
My personal favourite is Mine restaurant, which sells really delicious buy-one-get-one-free burgers on weekday afternoons! Club nights are great too, with Fruity on Friday always drawing a crowd - a good cheesey music night to welcome the weekend!

During the day, you can find everything you need in it's shops - and during the night you can find every kind of music you want too. The food in Mine is pretty yummy, and it's got a really good vibe too. Gonna miss Fruity Fridays when I'm not a student - they are always lots of fun!

I have been told that this is the biggest union in the UK and i am inclined to believe it. From visiting friends at other uni's i have found them to be useful but not necessarily as entertaining as this one. With Refectory, Stylus, and Mine all opening up for events at night and a supermarket, games room, two pub/bars another small shop and all the usefull union related student projects such as leeds student radio upstairs. great

Compared to some other university unions I've visited Leeds' is ok, about average. Theres not really that many of the shops that you'd want on a day-to-day basis, but its good for a night out with the two pubs and three club rooms. And theres always great big-name acts on in the refectory, so we cant really complain! But the drinks arent as cheap as they could be, after all we are students!

Its like a glorified rabbit warren this place but when you eventually find what you're looking for - it certainly delivers.
With lots of shops, eateries, bars, games rooms and even a hairdressers this place gives you exactly what you need.
I suggest a wander around Hiccup looking for delicious jewellery, then a spot of lunch in mine followed by a well deserved gin and tonic in the terrace.
Love-ly.

The LUU have taken a different approach to how they use the student money. What they use is a system called 'not for profit'. They take our money and use it to build bigger and better things in the union. So instead of cheap drinks and food there is better facilites, great gigs and amazing events. This can only make our union become better and better. Genius

Now if you asked me what a union should offer my first response would be cheapness. Drinks should be cheap, shops should be cheap. And in most uni's thats the case, but not in Leeds. No, we have the privilege of paying a premium so that the uni can build new parts onto the union that most people don't use. The bars are average, Stylus is pretty horrible. Nope, i dont rate the union

A nice spacious union with all the amendities a student will need during his studying. But not sure the union is designed and more importantly priced towards students as all items there are very expensive and always cheaper to get them from in town which i am sure is not the idea of a students union!

Considering the logo of the union is "not for profit" I have to say it is a total lie. The shop prices are ridiculously high, for example £3 for a pastie and £15 for a man's haircut. Some of the drinks in the bars are quite cheap, but only between the hours of 5 and 8, and who wants to be getting drunk then?

Quite expensive generally but this union was voted one of the best in the country when I first came to Leeds (2005) and I think looking around at other Unions I've been to its quite justified. As I've said it is quite pricey for such things as food and drinks but I'd prefer to pay a little more to have a union I am proud of- Fruity on a Friday is THE night to go out on!

"Not for profit"...nonsense. The Union is so expensive, especially compared to other Student Union's that I have visited around the country. And in the Essentials shop at lunchtime I have seen queues as long as 40 people, pretty much out the door, whcih when you only have an hour for lunch is not particularly relaxing as you spend all that time queueing for your sandwich! However, on the plus side the sandwiches are pretty tasty!

The union is overpriced and hypocritical (nestle and tobacco bans). Prices are by no means expensive and the majority of the space is sold to full price retailers who must be making a bomb out of the unions inability to deal with the lunch time crowds. Clubs nights in the union are generally quite good although the prices don't make them feel like student nights.

Okay. The union has all you'd expect from a students' union - shops, bars, clubs, cates, even a hairdressers. The main club night is on a Friday - Fruity - and is always worth going if you're stuck on a Friday Night. It's the prices which irritate me, however. Drinks in the union bars are no cheaper than in any pub in town (often more expensive), the food prices, too, are expensive. If they could sort this out, the place would be almost perfect.

This place is amazing! The amount of live music and the prestige of the acts performing here is immense. There is never a dull night in the union with the array of acts and sports available are amazingOnly downside is that the prices are a little bit step for a university union

The Union has a range of activities for students. There are bars and clubs, the best in my opinion being The Terrace. It is reasonably priced, there is an outdoor smoking area, and the music at night is good. There are 2 main food shops. A sandwich can cost between £0.99 and £3. There is a charity shop, insurance company Endsleigh, CATS where you can buy your events tickets. There are many well known artists such as Dizzy Rascal and Pendulum playing at the union. There are also shows put on by societies in the Riley Smith Hall. There is always something to do in the union and it is a good place to meet your friends before a night out.
