This is a very freindly book store and has the majority of recommended books for each course.
It also has non academic sections such as travel which are very useful for holidays in the summer

Great bookshop for university students and others - good offers, not only on academic text books but on fiction / maps / guide books etc. Friendly and very helpful staff, and well organised store. especially useful for students looking for specific editions of books for their courses, as they order in course books at a lecturer's request!

Well it's not the cheapest, but sometimes you just don't have a choice! The best thing about this bookshop is the fact that it stocks the correct edition of the books you need so that when you go to the seminar you are all on the same page.

Great for all your Uni book needs, as expected the stock all the books you'd need for your course. It not cheap, and I think you can get stuff cheaper online, but its really convieniently located and the staff are great. They also do a great loyalty card thing, where you get 10% off after you've bought a certain number of books.

They stock a wide variety of books both for the modules in all departments of the university and just general reading. Prices are reasonable and they also offer a book ordering service so you can pretty much get any book you want!

This conveniently placed book shop offers a range of fictional and non-fictional text books, complete with travel books and novels aswell. The prices seem fairly reasonable and your never crowded or rushed into a decision. Usually it holds the main modular text books necessary if your studying at Leeds Uni and therefore full marks for convenience in my opinion.

I am not the biggest fan of union books to be honest, yes they are well located in the union of you are dying for a book right that second, but the books are overpriced and you can find them much cheaper online, also they don't stock a whole lot of books for my course - obviously this cant be expected considering all the hundreds of courses on offer here at Leeds but still inconvenient for me personally! I am aware that you can buy and sell secondhand books here and the staff seem friendly and are prepared to order a book in for you if you are prepared to wait.

This shop is in a conveniant location for Leeds uni students but thats about it. The book prices are incredibly high, one would expect them to be cheaper in a shop thats meant to be for the benefit of students. amazon.com and ebay are so much cheaper and just as conveniant.

really really expensive bookshop in the union which does stock most of the core texts you need for your course but at ridiculous prices, it is far better to look on amazon for real bargains, they do offer a scheme where you can sell used textbooks but they take a lot of the profit from it so i think youd make more money on sites such as amazon or ebay. the queues are always huge and the staff arent that helpful!

the union book shop is insanely expensive and offers a rubbish sell-on scheme. The book ordering process does not seem work and I ended up purchasing on amazon. If you buy 8 books you get £10 off which seems ridiculous as most books cost in excess of £30

If you're looking for a book for your course and you don't mind spending a bit more money, this is the easy way out for you. Otherwise, there's all sorts of Ebays and Amazons that you could use for a cheaper, if used, copy.

staff are great, but the prices are often high, always search online and look for second hand books. (amazon.co.uk is a great place to start). good range of books available. you should be able to find most of the items on your reading lists. if not the staff will be happy to order the item for you. also has a little lounge on a side for you to read.

Books are ridiculously expensive in here- especially for a student union! Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the layout is really easy to find the right subject and is a nice looking shop, but can't get over the price!! Always queues too.

Books are ridiculously expensive in here. I just don't understand why they cost so much. I bought 3 biology books - standard course textbooks - and it set me back over £100. I don't know if that's unique to this bookshop or whether they're expensive anywhere. To be fair, because it's a union-run shop, they have all the books you need - it's just a shame they don't offer loans.

i have to agree with the other reviews that it is so expensive, however the book shop account is a good idea whereby you get an extra 10% to spend. I did find the layout ok, however the books didn't seem to go in any order, which made it quite confusing. NIce friendly staff though!

They always have the books for your course, and if they dont they can order it for you in a matter of days. The prices are ridiculous with a thin textbook costing about £13. One of my coursebooks costs around £30, but thats what they cost everywhere. There is an incentive where if you put £100 on your account then you get £10 which is always useful. Good staff and well organised shop.

Good book store especially for all the books i required for university - easy to find the books needed and there was good assistance present for when needed. The only problem is the prices as always student text books cost a bomb.

This is the UKs only independent Union Bookshop. It's a nonprofit shop located in the University of Leeds' Student Union (LUU)., and it is the place to go for any and all books for your course. At the beginning of each year, they have books for several popular classes stacked on tables in the centre of the shop, and if they don't have what you're looking for (rare), they will order it for you.The best part of Union Books is its convenience. Because it's located in the Union (on campus) it's convenient for all students, and because of its selection, you can get all your books in one place. On the other hand, while they do have a bit towards the back with second-hand books, for the most part these are new copies and, as such, will be more expensive than used book shops or trying to buy from someone who's already taken your course. Also, I find that the layout of Union Books can be confusing, especially when it comes English texts as it's organised into classics, poetry and analysis of poetry, general fiction texts (many just for general reading, not any class), etc. & sometimes books will be missing from the shelves because they are on a table in the centre of the shop and it can be hard to figure out which ones they are on.Even with this trouble though, there are always people at the help desk in the back who can help you find what you're looking for, so I would definitely say it's a very good and useful business overall and definitely worth checking out. They also offer money saving schemes like the 'Union Books Saver Account' which saves you 10% on all purchases if you buy them using an account you set up at the bookshop with an initial deposit of at least £50 and top ups of £20 or more. You need to fill out an application form for this in the shop & it is probably a good idea to do if you will be buying many or all of your books through Union Books. They've also now introduced a loyalty card as well through which you get £10 off of your next purchase when you have filled the card with stamps (purchase of £10 or more = one stamp, 10 stamps = a full card, i.e. once you've spent £100 or more you will get £10 off your next purchase). This may not sound very exciting, but every little bit helps!
