This Akbars does not have the same classy feel as Mumtaz in Bradford - which is just the best ever. Aagrah is worth a visit, especially their buffets. Akbars in Bradford is much bigger and proabably that much nicer.
I love Akbars. It's one of the nicest Indian restaraunts I've been to, and is very popular. The downside is that it gets very busy, they don't like taking bookings for small groups, so the wait for a table can be 30+ plus of an evening A good selection of dishes are available, and brilliant large naan breads. They're also very obliging about making dishes less spicy if you ask them, and they do a very, very mild korma - so it would still be a nice place to take someone who wasn't keen on spicy food.
Akbars is a really nice, authentic Indian restaurant which serves fantastic food at reasonable prices. It is located on the popular and fashionable Greek Street which means it can get very busy, especially on a Friday and Saturday. We went on Saturday night and just managed to miss the crowds, but while we were eating there must have been what looked like, around 40 people waiting to be seated! So book early if you don't want to wait!
Busyness aside however, Akbars is a great restaurant, with a good sized menu that offers customers a real taste of Indian cuisine. The atmosphere is exiting and friendly and the staff are helpful, attentive and polite - even when it's busy. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Akbars is a great oriental indian restaurent. It has an uplifting atmosphere, and is a clean establishment. The service is efficient and the customer service is great. They have a wide choice on the menu and the prices are cheaper tham alternative indian restaurents.
This akbars is on the trendy Greek Street, and you cannot book a table for it unless with a really big party. It fills up in the evenings, every evening pretty much, and so is really busy and packed, and I found it to be quite a frantic expereience, not exactly a cosy romantic meal for 2 kind of place. It gets lots of office workers in at night too, and they can be quite noicy and rowdy. The food is expensive, no doubt about that, but it is seriously good food, really authentic tasting and special. You really don't need a starter, the portions are massive, expecially if you go for naan and all the extras, and the naan's come on skewers and you can order a special big one, and it is MASSIVE! Yummy!
Akbars is a great place to go with friends and family. This modern, sophisticated indian restaurant is always busy due to its nice tasting food, and friendly bar staff, not to forget the reasonable prices. The portions are also very generous, usually we get couple of curries to share between 4-5 of us when we go.
A superb Indian restaurant whether you choose to go out with your friends or on a date with a loved one! The food is delicious and reasonable priced-more expensive than your usual Indian takeaway prices but then again you pay for what you get, as the old saying goes! This is certainly a restaurant I will never get bored of visiting, and if you like your Indian cuisine, then Akbars is well worth a visit.
A very bustling and lively place with a lot of atmosphere. A great place to go for a good but untraditional curry. The decor is very modern and stylish and I can see why this place gets busy. We had to wait about 15mins before we were seated but this was quick seeing as there were about four tables waiting before us. The service was very prompt and efficient. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable, however if you start adding on extras you may find the bill goes up a lot. I found the curry way too much for just me and I didnt even have rice. Possibly splitting a rice and curry between two and having some sides as well may have been a better idea!
Akbars is a really nice place, and they do amazing curries for a good price. The staff are great here, really accommodating and friendly, so Id definately recomend it to anyone- especially the Sag Aloo!!
Love indian food, love akbar. A wide range of indian food, that is always served piping hot and cooked fresh in a clean kitchen. Although they havent got a delivery service, you are still able to order food to be picked up. Prices are great and if you feel the food you have ordered isnt upto standard, they have no problem in recooking the same dish again or allowing you to order an alternative from the menu.
I love this Indian restaurant! the Naans are bigger than your body and are soooo good! The korma is very sweet but the tikka masalla is perfect! Its not expensive either with a main, naan, and some sides coming to a tenner.
This is my favourite indian restraunt
It is really classy and has a buzzing atmoshere
The food is georgeous and they have the biggest nann breads I have ever seen, I deffinately recommend to try one

This is a really great indian restaurant..... the best have ever experienced. The decor is really modern and so clean looking. The staff are very knowledgable and helpful and the food is simply beautiful. My personal favourite is the 'Akbary Balti', which has mince, potato etc. The naans are also unbelievably big and they come hanging from hooks so you simply just tear the naan off.
Delicious Indian food - had a lovely curry with beef and tomatoes - friendly staff who were helpful and aided me in choosing a 'not too spicey' curry! Star of the show has to be the HUGE naan breads hanging on a silver hook - sounds ridiculous but is so much fun to share a 'naan for 4' with your friends!
Nice buzzy atmosphere, and an ideal place to go for a special occasion as they love to receive requests to play Happy Birthday on the speakers to the whole restaurant and bring over a sparkler in a pudding to your table! (I speak from experience!)

LOVE IT. the food is yummy, the prices are cheap, the service is speedy and there's always a good atmosphere. Definitely recommend the family naan because it is so big that it comes on a funny looking stand.
DELICIOUS! The food is very yummy, well presented and the service is brilliant. The atmosphere is great as it is always busy in there, yet this doesn't seem to affect the great service! If you go, you must have one of the enormous naan breads, espcially the garlic one! they even play happy birthday and bring out a big cake with sparklers in it if you request it!
Without a doubt one of my favourite places to eat in Leeds. The menu has a great selection of both starters and main courses all at affordable prices. The staff are excellent and very attentive, also if you are celebrating a birthday or an anniversary they offer a celebratory desert which comes with sparklers and the addition of a song played throughout the entire restaurant as the waiters sing along! Although they do charge you a small fee it is definately worth while as it makes your visit even more memorable. If you like Indian food and are in Leeds, Akbars is a must!
I ordred one of these curries not too far back and needless to say like the other reviewers it was great. I similarly think that there isn't a delivery service but it isn't too much hassle if you are in the local area. The food was very good and to an equal standard of many restauants i have been to however it was cheaper than many of the retaurants. It was busy in the shop when i went n which suggests it is popular amongst the local community. i would definately recommened visiting Akbars if you live near.
Thought a re-review was called for as i sampled their takeaway service for the first time the other night. I'm pretty sure that they don't offer delivery but you can order in advance and nip in to pick it up. Extra hasle maybe but so so so very worth it! Show me a better indian takeaway in leeds and i may very well eat my hat! The food was still really hot by the time we got it home and you can be sure its all cooked fresh as the kitchens are going like a fayre all the time. Really reasonably priced considering the food is actually amazing. As if i needed to clarify further i absolutely love this place! The only slight danger is that now i've discovered the takeaway i'm going to go several times a week and become both very poor and extremely fat. Oh well, it'll be worth it!
Always busy and with no booking service here, expect you turn up and have to wait for a table. However, don't let this put you off. The curry, although admitedly not being the most authentic and Indian, is incredibly tasty and fiarly reasonably priced aswell. The maitre-de will almost always have you seated within 10minutes on a week night and so really the wait is just enough time to get the taste-buds going. When you do pay it a visit don't miss out on the massive, hanging naan-breads - guarenteed to obliterate your fellow diners entirely from site unless you can eat through it!!
I really do love the food they serve at akbars. Theres not a huge amount of choice but I prefer it to be kept simple. The decor is quite suede as well and it makes you feel as if you should be dressed up. The staff are fairly friendly but can't speak much english. A great treat at the end is when they give you a selection of exotic fruit for free! It almost is always a great curry. But make sure you get there early becasue it gets extremely busy due to the prime location of greek street.
I like this curry joint. the food is nice and tasty. The portions are huge. A starter and main will leave you with a doggy bag full of curry. The prices are reasonable and you can pick up a curry ranging from 8 to 14 pounds depdending on the meat chosen. Service is ok but noone really understands you. Nice place which is decorated well and a good night. It get extremely busy and they dont take bookings unless it is for a massive gathering.
Lovely traditional Indian food served in a modern setting. The service is average and prices are reasonable. Would recommend booking, particularly on weekend as the restaurant is always busy! The HUGE naan breads are a must!
Fantastic, faultless and about as highly recommended as they come! There is nothing else to say - go there!
Akbars is the at the pinnacle of Indian cuisine. The surrondings are stylish and traditionally Indian and yet maintain a modern feel. The kitchen is open so as to allow full supervision of your order. The highlight for me is the family naans which come on giant stands allowing for sharing. The spices are great and each meal is fresh and tasty. All the spice is refreshed after the meal as you tuck into your fruit plate that is complimentary.
Popular Indian on Eastgate that serves up pretty good food in flash surroundings. I dont know why, but the naan breads always taste great, and the mild chicken korma( which suits me perfectly, im not a spicey girl!) is so creamy it literally melts in your mouth!
Really good curry restaurant. Very elegantly decorated and always busy. You aren't able to book a table, you have to just turn up and wait. Very reasonably priced considering its in an expensive location, and has to do the best curries in Leeds. Order a naan bread, they're enormous and you won't be disappointed
My favourite curry house in Leeds.
I cannot fault it. The food is out of this world. I usually go with a large group of friends with differing tolarence to spice and each of them comment on how much they have enjoyed their chosen dish.
The staff are helpful, polite and efficient.
The highlight of our trips to Akbars have to be the family nan. Hung from a large hook it is easily the size of an adult torso.
Great!

Great!
I have been to Akbars The Grand on Greek Street on numerous occassions, I would say that it is officially my favourite Indian resteraunt ever!! The currys are amazing, really fresh and they do these huge family naan breads which are great for novelty value. If you go there when it is your birthday they sing to you and bring a special ice cream desert with sparklers in and take a polariod of you for posterity. As it is such a large resteraunt they can also cater for really big groups the resteraunt is also in a great location for moving on to bars afterwards.
Great resturant but quite expensive. Make sure you book because its always packed pass 6pm. The service here is brillant, the waiter always makes sure everything is ok. Went here for valentines days and really enjoyed the meal.
Fantastic restaurant. I still don't know if it's connected to the old kebab place in Hyde Park but I'm pretty sure it's not, given the high quality of food on offer here.Great place to come for a curry. Really tasty and at good prices - £9 I paid last time. As mentioned below, the service is not fast as it takes time to prepere good food, but it is friendly and welcoming to everyone.
Akbars the Grand is a great eating experience. It is just as good as its Eastgate counterpart but the bar is so much bigger meaning if you are waiting for a table (which due to the popularity of the restaurant you usually are) you arent cramped so can relax and have a drink with friends. The menu is slightly more expensive than the Eastgate branch but it is in the smarter area of town so can get away with it. The food as always is lovely and there are generous portions, possibly too much food as i always struggle to finish a curry to myself. The service is fast and reliable and if you need anything ther is always someone there to help be it more drinks or an addition to your order. At the end of your meal you get a plate of fresh fruit including pineapple bananas and apples and grapes, this is complimentary and really finishes off the experience well. It is a nice touch. Akbars is a place where after one visit you will go back again and again. Me and my housemates cant stay away!
