The Opera Bastille in Paris is the "new" opera house, opened some 15 - 20 years ago, but still looking pretty impressive. I don't particularly like the outside, although it's worth looking at, but inside it's pretty stunning and works very well and efficiently. I am told that tickets are cheaper than Covent Garden opera, but looking at their website it didn't seem a whole lot cheaper ,,,,,, prices ranging from 35 Euros to 150 Euros .... with alot of special deals ..... student, senior citizen, last minute tickets etc etc. I saw Strauss' "Die Frau ohne Schatten" (The Woman Without a Shadow) in a really spellbinding production by Robert Wilson ..... very minimalist and exciting, so perfect in the Opera Bastille's very contemporary setting.
