August in England, after several weeks in the sun abroad..... my daughter's 17th birthday and she wanted to walk on the beach at Daymer Bay. We did so and it poured with rain, our ears ached from the howling wind and we were soaked and miserable. What was needed was a delicious lunch to cheer us up and remind us that Cornwall is as good as they say. So we sat in the car in our underwear and dried our jeans on the dashboard, heater blasting and drove around the bay to Padstow. Suitably attired again we arrived at Rick Stein's Cafe and only had to wait for a table for about 15 minutes (you can't reserve a table, but they serve lunch from 12 - 5 ). We then had the most delicious lunch I have had for a very long time, and certainly better than any I'd had the previous month in France. There wasn't only fish on the menu, but we had sea bass cooked with pernod and spicy fishcakes. Really, really excellent; friendly, helpful service and a bill of 23 for the two of us, which I thought was pretty good. Worth going to Cornwall for.

I have mixed views of this cafe. It is situated in the picturesque coastal town of Padstow and has good views over the waters. When i went to eat there with my family i was very disappointed with the service of a particular waiter. We each said what we wanted to eat to the waiter and looked forward to our meal. When the food came i was given Brill instead of swordfish which was what i ordered. Instead of apologising he decided to blame me and said that i ordered the Brill when i actually said i wanted the swordfish. Everyone at the table heard me say it yet he continued to say that i said brill. He did say that he can change it for swordfish but it may take 20- 30 minutes. As we were leaving he also decided to drop out coats on the floor. Not the best of service, but he did introduce me to the brill, which i found very tasty.

This is situated in the centre of padstow but on one of the back streets and not on the quayside. This works to its advantage and also its disadvantage. It means the atmosphere is a lot quieter and eating there is more peaceful but it means that less people walk past it. The interior is very well done in a beachy theme and although small, they manage to make it feel spacious. The food is amazing as in a any Rick Stein's restaurant and the service is cvery fast. It was a great experience.

Located in Padstow the chief Rick Stein has completely taken over Padstow over the years- a great place nonethless to grab some fantastic fresh seafood and fish. They do lovely lunches, however as it is very popular with the tourists there is quite a queue usually. It is worth it though!

Rick Stein shops, resteraunts and bakeries have sprung up all over Padstow, its almost like the Stein empire! Many may think that this monopoly is unfair but the public simply love it, me included, all his produce is great quality and really really tasty, contrary to popular belief he does not just do fish, although this obvioulsy is his speciality. This middle street cafe is small and cosy with no need to book, tables are on a first come first served basis. They do good lunches and afternoon teas too, pop in here if you can get a space its much cheaper and more accessible than his other resteraunts
