Avon is a large county, although it has now been split up between certain boroughs - most of Avon now comes under South Gloucestershire,North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset and Bristol counties.
The west coast of Avon is along the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel. There are many seaside towns dotted along the coast, from Weston-Super-Mare, home to the massive T4 On The Beach events, a small town of Brean just 5minutes drive from Weston, Burnham on Sea and Minhead being popular resorts. It is also home to some big cities - Bristol and Bath.
There are many little towns to visit, and the Mendips aren''t far away. Avon is also just over the 1st and 2nd Severn Bridges from Wales, Cardiff being a popular port of call.
For shopping trips most people come to Bristol, and for History and Architecture Bath is quite a hit.
Avon is also home to the popular Cheddar, home of the cheese and magnificent Gorge. There is also Shepton Mallet - home of Westfest Dance festival, and Glastonbury - popular for the indie festival.
There is a lot to see and do throughout Avon, and a lot of lovely countryside for walks and drives.
Avon is full of history and Architecture - so lots to explore if you like this sort of thing. If not it has some fantastic shopping - not only in bigger places like Bristol and Bath, but Street is home to Clarks Village - discount factory shops - a shoppers treat!
