We visited Stirling last year for a few nights and really enjoyed ourselves. It is really easy to get to Stirling by car, bus or train we got the train there and the train station is right in the middle of the cit so were able to easily walk to our hotel. There are also car hire offices at the station so if you do get the train there and decide you do want to go out and aout you can easily hire one.
There was plenty to do as the city has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions. In particular we spent most of our time at the tourist attractions. We stayed not far from the Castle and were able to see from there all the way over to The Wallace Monument - which we also visited. The entry prices for both of these places was reasonable and we left thinking that we had got value for money. I wouldnt reccomend the Wallace Monument for anyone who cannot walk long distances or is scared of small spaces as there are quite a few steps to get up to the top and the stairway is very narrow. There is a tourist bus which takes you to 7 different tourists sports in the area including the two mentioned previously andalso bannochburn.
The population of Stirling is approx 45000 which makes it the smallst city in Scotland however even though it is quite smal compared to other cities Stirling does have its own university as well as its own football (Stirling Albion FC) rugby and athletics team.

Stirling is a beautiful city. It''s a very historic town and also a University town and due to both these reasons it has a fantastic atmosphere. The reason most people end up in Stirling is no doubt to visit the historic Striling Castle - home and fortress to many of Scotland''s kings and queens. There are also many other historic attractions in the area such as Bannockburn (battleground) and the Wallace Monument - both of these can be seen from the Castle. As you wander round the city you will see many other fine old buildings. Stirling is also an excellent shopping destination with a huge shopping centre (with just about every shop you could imagine!) and high street and a particularly large branch of Debenhams. There are also a large selection of lovely restaurants in the town centre and an even larger selection of pubs (due in large part to the student population!). There is a good selection of accommodation in the area so if you''re planning on staying for a while you should find it quite easy to find a room. To get the most out of your visit you should pop in to the Tourist Information Centre where they will be able to give you more information about Stirling (and beyond!) and even book accommodation for you. A lovely city you''ll want to visit again and again.

I love visiting Stirling. The place is fantastic with so much to do and see. Historically there is so much to learn about William Wallace, there is the monument which can be seen for miles around and the castle which can also be seen. The whole area is stunningly beautiful with hills around and just driving around is breath taking.
The centre itself is great too for shopping with plenty on offer and no plenty of parking spaces. Offering firm favourites such as Primark, marks and spencers, jjb sports, river island, debenhams, Next and loads more. Plenty of places to stop off for a coffee break too to recharge your batteries in between shopping and sight seeing. There is a sight seeing bus tour that you can go on which i highly recommend.
Over all one of my most favourite places in Britain to visit.

stirling is a large city located in between glasgow and edinburgh and is usually overlooked as a place to visit because of the larger cities. i went to universtiy in stirling so i used to spend alot of time there. stirling has a large shopping mall with many well known shops and great places to eat, loads of high street and smaller privately owned shops, a railway station which has trains going to dunblane and edinburgh (and everywhere in between), a bus station with buses going to many of the nearby towns and cities, several pubs and clubs, many brilliant places to eat and beautiful historic monuments such as the gorgeous stirling castle. some of the older buildings in stirling are beautiful. the castle is a great place to visit and is a fantastic day out. it is steeped in scottish history and is very interesting, stirling castle is a fantastic place to vsit for families, school groups, couples...well anybody really. i love going into stirling for days out shopping with friends, visiting friends at the university, having lunch at one of the many fantastic places to eat, visiting the castle, and just spending the day there.

Stirling is a beautiful historic place. The views in Stirling are amazing. take a camera if you''re going.

Also fabulous shopping centres which we often take a drive to from Edinburgh. People are very friendly. I have always had a lovely time in Stirling. Lots of things to do and things to see. Great places to eat and drink.

Really good for a nice day out.

If you ever have the pleasure of visiting the city of Stirling in Scotland, you will no doubt be surprised at what you find. Usually overlooked in favour of its significantly larger neighbours, Edinburgh and Glasgow, Stirling is a hidden gem.

Known as the "Gateway to the Highlands", you can certainly see why when you look over the relatively flat area upon which Stirling is built to see the mountains of the highlands erupt. Stirling is rich in history. At the centre of the city on a rocky outcrop is the Wallace monument built in honour of Sir William Wallace who led the resistance during the Wars of Scottish Independence, defeating the English in the centre of Stirling in 1648. Stirling castle, built on the site of a stone-age settlement is another impressive historical building worth of visiting to get a quick history fix or entertain the family for the day. The city itself has all the usual city shops and a large shopping centre but only a handful of bars and restaurants.

Stirling is an attractive, distinctly Scottish and I cannot criticise the natural beauty of the place but like most beautiful things, it is the practicalities that let it down. It can be very cold and bleak particularly during winter which can make living there a little less fun and the cost of basic things like fresh vegetables (apart from potatoes and onions which are abundant!) are high, making eating healthily a much more expensive game particularly if you are on a students budget (having lived with Stirling University students during my visit).

Overall, a brilliant place to visit (9/10) but Im too soft for the cold!!
