Looe is a small coastal town and fishing port in the caradon district of the south-east cornwall.
Looe is in fact two towns, East Looe and West Looe, connected by bridge across the River Looe which flows between them, to reach the sea beside a sandy beach. Off shore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore beach, lies the picturesque St. George''s Island, commonly known as Looe Island.
Looe''s main business today is, tourism, with much of the town given over to hotels, guest houses and holiday homes, along with a large number of pubs, restaurants, and shops selling beach equipment, ice cream and Cornish pasties. Inland from Looe there are many camping and caravan sites, as well as a famous Woolly monkey sanctuary. Other local attractions include the beaches, sailing, fishing and diving, and spectacular coastal walks (especially that via Talland to Polperro)
Looe is also in the top 10 places in the UK to celebrate New Year.

Looe is a beautiful little town in Cornwall. They have a large active harbour where you can sit and watch the fishermen getting their days catch out. There are several great little restaurants around the harbour. The whole atmosphere of the place is very relaxing. I remember all of the houses being really cute and cottagey and it just looking like a beautiful postcard. We holidayed here when I was a kid and we always had a fantastic time. I remember lots of people dressed up as pirates walking around telling us stories about all of the pirates ands their escapades. It was all fantastic fun. I really would recommend this as a place to take the kids. A great little holiday. Not for those wanting lots of action, but a lovely peaceful retreat.

Looe, is a beautiful part of Cornwall and a very pretty place indeed.
The harbour is very peaceful and relaxing and has been a centre for fishing and seafaring for centuries and a very popular place for young children and old to go crabbing. We had a go with our children and they absolutely loved it and caught loads! You can go on a boat trip very cheaply around Looe bay. There are lots of little shops around Looe that are treasures. If you go down the road to polperro two of the must visit stores are a gallery selling hand painted pictures of Looe and the other is the Joan the Wad store, home of the Polperro Piskie, that has brought wealth and good health to thousands.
Back to Looe, On a Tuesday the Looe bay Pirates and Buccaneers are out if full costume around the town and harbour. They will give you a picture card try and spot them all. As well as that they will tell you all about Looes past supplying the high seas with some of the notorious pirates in history. They are absolutely great so much fun, the children are mesmerized.
Looe is only a small place but has some beautiful beaches and is an ideal place for exploring the rest of Cornwall and Devon. Plymouth is only approx 20 miles away.
It is a lovely place to visit.

Looe is a very pretty place. It is actually two smaller towns joined together by a bridge over the River Looe. They are known as East Looe and West Looe. Worth a day trip or a good place to base yourself, with plenty of accommodation available from B&Bs to hotels. Its main income used to be from the pilchard canning factory, which closed in the 19600s, but nowadays it relies on tourism. You can get to it by road, (best to park at the entrance to the town as the streets are very narrow and hard to navigate) or travel down by train. From Devon and Cornwall there are cheap day returns on the train to Looe. The harbour is still worked by local fisherman and you can sit on the banjo pier and watch them land their catch and then eat some of it in the excellent restaurants around the quay! You can also visit Looe Island where we saw the remains of a chapel built in the 12th century. The Island is also fabulous for beaches and swimming etc. Only accessible by boat this is a lovely place to spend an afternoon, and once there, there are no cars or even roads!
