A beautiful coastal town in county antrim. it is a lovely place to visit for day trips or for a ''wee'' stay. ballycastle is unique as it is the only place in northern ireland to have a ferry crossing to get to raithlin island. this a a scenic island with a small population and home only to one promary school. it is characteristically quiet for an island yet wortha trip. ballycastle is extrememly close to the popular national trust tourist attractions of the giant''s causeway and carrik a rede rope bridge which draws many visitors each year. these attractions are good for both tourists and locals alike and definately worth a visit. many consider the giant''s causeway as one of the world''s greatest natural phenomenons and one of the seven wonder''s of the world!! to get to ballycastle there are good bus links which make access easy. there are a few shops many very traditionally styled shops. there are a few quaint but well established restaurants which are wortha visit.

Ballycastle is a lovely place situated in County Antrim. Any visitors here would have to go and visit the rope bridge. I was on holiday here and everybody was telling me about the rope bridge. I went to see for myself and it looks scary!!! I personally was not brave enough to go across it was enough just to look. There are some beautiful views around Ballycastle and there are some lovely drives to go on. In the town centre there are quite a few shops and cafes. The people here are very friendly and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. There are some beautiful houses here and it is nice just to drive around and look. It is generally a quiet place and is easily accessible to other towns close by. Overall this is a lovely town which is one to visit if you are ever in Northern Ireland.

Ballycastle for me is one of the better places to start a tour of the Antrim coast.... Simply the best place on planet earth with Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge between Ballycastle and Ballintoy though you need to be quite mobile . Just to walk across this very narrow, very scary (not for those scared of heights), hovering 80 odd feet above the sea. You can only be access it during the summer months as it is removed before winter comes. Only for the very brave
Fairhead is the great headland at the far end of the bay with cliffs rising to 600 feet and is a must see.
The legend goes like this
"A beautiful girl once lived in a castle on Rathlin Island She had many suitors which led to a fight between two of them and the winner was to marry the girl. One of them was mortally wounded and as he was dying he whispered to his servant to dance with the girl out on the cliffs below the castle. The faithful servant obeyed his command and danced nearer and nearer the edge until they fell over and were killed. The spot on the mainland where the body of this beautiful fair haired girl was washed up was from then on known as Fairhead".
Now all Irish tales are of course true stories.... so stay away from the cliff edge:)
