I have only been on holiday to Ilfracombe once but have to say I really enjoyed it, much more than i expected to!
My husband and i went pre children and stayed in self catering accomodation, booked through cottages 4 you, but I have heard good reports on the John Fowler site (especially if you are taking children).. from what I have been told, the site is kept very clean and staff are generally friendly and helpful to visitors.
The town of Ilfracombe itself is much prettier than i had expected... i was expecting it to be much more built up! There is a lovely little harbour from which you can bok and take boats trips and there soeme lovely shops along the harbour where you can buy yummy ic creams, or the essential pastie!! There is also a lovely fish and chip shop which is well worth a visit!

I have recently been on a 5 day holiday to Ilfracombe and really enjoyed it. Me, my husband and 8 month old baby stayed at the John Fowler site which was a good choice, very clean and friendly people. Ilfracombe itself is very pretty and has a nice harbour where you can go on boats trips from. There are a few shops along the harbour including places to buy lovely Cornish Pasties, Cream Teas and Ice Creams of several different flavours. We went on different walks and enjoyed the lovely scenery everywhere we went. The area has a lot of hills though so we tended to drive, park up and walk round then drive back to where we were staying !!

Myslef and my mate decided we was going to plan a camping holiday and decided on somewhere in Devon so I got on the web and looked around. I looked up Ifracombe and instantly fell in love with the way it looked. Travelling from Nottingham it took us about 4 hours to drive and once there I was very happy with my choice.
We stayed in the Mill Park Caravan and Camping site in Berrynarbor, which was very easy to find once coming off the motor way.
Ilfracombe itself is a lovelly little seaside town which is huge on fishing. We went out Mackerel fishing on one of the fishing boats and it was a excellent experience. Even though the weather on the trip was terrible it didnt stop us walking about the town seeing all the sights.
The town itself has all the usual shops keeping your cupboards stocked with good food. We went out for dinner on a few occasions and enjoyed a large plateau of sea food.
There is plenty to do for families and children in Ilfracombe including the combe martin wildlife and dinosaur park.
Even though the weather was not great I still head a great time and will visit again in the future

I lived in Ilfracombe for two years. It has lovely views over the bristol channel on a clear day you can see the city of Swansea. Its also has lot''s of friendly pubs, quirky shops and cafes. The seafront is full of tourist aimed attractions such as arcades, small aquarium, mini golf and also has a museum and light house open to the public. There is also a new cinema and The landmark theatre which you cant miss as its locally known as madonnas bra you will understand what I mean if you have seen it. The fish and chip shops are some of the best in the country, and a walk down the sea front and pier is a definate must do.The only thing that let''s ilfracombe down is it''s lack of nightlife but you can travel to the nearby town of Barnstaple for that.

We recently went to Ilfracombe on a four day camping holiday. The camp site we stayed in was really nice with some great facilities and a really nice on site bar. Unfortunately we went during a week worth of rain so probably didn''t get to see Ilframcombe at it''s best but we still found it a really nice place, the town is quiet and the whole vibe was just relaxing. There are a lot of sights to see and lots of open space for kids to run around and enjoy themselves away from a large city. Ilframcombe castle is really pretty and definitely worth a visit. I would have loved to have done some sunbathing on the lovely beaches but as I said it was raining! British weather really is ruining our holiday destinations!
Something I really did enjoy though was going out on a boat into the sea on a sea fishing trip. We all had a go at casting out into the sea and seeing what we could catch. Unfortunately we weren''t all that good but my husband managed to catch a couple of fish. We cooked it for dinner on the barbecue at our tent that evening! It really made a change from city living, just relaxing and enjoying the countryside. The beach has lots of rock pools to have a walk around and collect shells and other things.
All in all it was a great place for a family camping trip. The town itself was really nice and clean and the air was actually fresh! The local people were all very friendly and helpful when we got lost! I would love to go back again but preferably in the sunshine!!
