Okehampton is a small but beautiful village with some beautiful cottages and original coaching Inns.It is very close to the north of Dartmoor and a great place to base yourself if you love walking, rambling or cycling. The Dartmoor Way and the Dartmoor Cycle Route and Millennium cycle route all run close by to Okehampton.

The town itself is full of little winding streets that lead into the main street with the gorgeous town hall which dates back to the 17th Century. There are a myriad of antique and collectable shops which are very popular and fascinating to rootle around in.

Okehampton also has a castle, albeit a ruined one but it is high up above Okehampton and there are great views from it. The walk up to it is fairly gentle so no need for hiking boots! It dates back to Norman times and is surrounded by beautiful countryside.

They also have a Museum of Dartmoor life which has really interactive and interesting exhibits. It shows a lot of the old ways people used to earn money from the moor and the surrounding areas and they also have a great art gallery with local artists and photography exhibitions. It has been refurbished in the last couple of years and has a really nice tea shop now which is a great place to meet for a coffee. If you want something more modern then they have a two screen cinema showing the latest blockbusters.
