Sidmouth is a very beautiful and peaceful town located right on the coast.
There is a long pebble beach running along the edge of the town which is beautiful to walk along at sun set.
There are several shops, mainly chain stores, however there are a few nice, little independent stores offering beautifully handmade products.
There are a lot of guesthouses and B&B''s around as well as expensive hotels situated next to the beach with views looking out over the water.
There are nice pubs and restaurants, I enjoy going to ''Dukes'' which can be found close to beach. It has an outside seating area and offers nice food and good wine.
There are several places where you can walk, one of them being The Byess which is a beautiful grass park, with the river Syd running all the way through it. This park is ideal for dog walking, or to take young children to feed the ducks.
There is a cinema in Sidmouth and also several fast food restaurants.
There are several primary schools in and around Sidmouth and also a college/secondary school.
In my opinion Sidmouth would be a lovely place to retire as it is a very calm and peaceful place.. I do however think that there is room for improvement in the facilities available to younger generations.

It really is a beautiful town. Sidmouth tends to be a very busy place in the summer as it attracts many visitors. A particularly busy time is the Sidmouth Folk Week. This is a very popular event on Sidmouths calendar with a whole week filled with music, singing, dancing, pub sessions, workshops, concerts and storytelling and much more. It is definitely worth visiting Sidmouth during the folk week as it really lives up the town. The only criticism I would make of Sidmouth are it''''s very small streets in the town centre (where the shops are). As the streets by the shops are free for cars to drive down it can be dangerous for younger children to walk unaccompanied. It can get very busy in the town centre so you can be forced to walk on the road at times which can get very annoying especially when some drivers almost run you down!

An adorable and idyllic seaside town that is a perfect place to retire to. The seafront itself is peaceful and has a long stretch of pebbled beach with a row of restaurants, hotels, quaint pubs and ice cream shops etc along. The sea always has one or two people swimming in (although I wouldn''t myself as I''m a pansy and think it''s too cold). The town is very small and the reason I say it would be a perfect place to retire to is because the town does not have a lot of shops and has very few shops that cater for teenagers, however Exeter is not far away which is great for shopping! The parts of Sidmouth I have seen have been really beautiful and it is so easy to walk around (apart from the odd hill or too) There is a park with a river that runs right under the road and out again so there are bridges to cross and parks for younger ones to play in. I go there to visit my Grandparents who have recently moved there and they really enjoy it, there is a strong sense of community and a really ideal place for them to be.
