Shaftesbury is a beautiful town in the county of Dorset in south England.
To reach Shaftesbury, one can take the M3, or the A3, from London. This is a journey of about two and a half hours (depending on traffic on some notoriously busy roads in the area). If you are coming from Bournemouth, it takes about an hour to get to Shaftesbury.
The town is surrounded by the countryside of the Blackmore Vale.
Shaftesbury has some interesting claims to fame. It was used in one of the novels by Thomas Hardy, and the Hovis commercial for bread was shot here!
Shaftesbury Abbey is something that visitors to the town may want to learn about, and they can do so, at the local museum. (I think this costs about two pounds to get into.) When I went to the town, unfortunatley the museum was closed because it was low season, so if you want to visit this musuem, it is better to go to the town in the summer!
There is another museum in the town, called The Gold Hill Museum.
In the town itself are some beautiful buildings, including two or three churches.
This is one of my favourite towns in Dorset, and I recommend those that havennt been, to visit!
