Wigtown -The Hay On Wye of Dumfries and Galloway! But not quite. It is Scotlands national book town however and is a delightful Place to stop and browse through the well placed shops and natural history sites. Sit in the towns triangular "square" and admire the wonderful painted cottages and town houses surrounding you . We visited on a sunny summers day and the place was very quiet, but there was a local country fair on, so we guessed that''ll be where all the tourists were!. We didn''t mind- We had the place all to ourselves:) However during the book festival each autumn I should imagine a bustling atmosphere. We parked our vehicle on the street which is wide and wheelchair/pushchair freindly,Some places are on an incline, particularly if you visit "The Martyrs Graves" down past the parish church. There are a reasonable amount of eateries to suit all pockets, we visited a delightful cafe towards the top end of town that served delicious broth and carrot cake.
A "must visit" place. Enjoy!
