What a boring city. It has a tiny population with very few shops and all I can say is that nothing ever seems to happen there. I''m forced to visit family there atleast once a year and in my opinion I cannot understand why they live in such a disappointing destination.

An old market town filled with character as well as modern shops and soon to be retail centre of West Wales. Originally a Roman settlement (Moridunum) it grew to be a major port in Wales and the UK. In fact, the Romans left there mark, and one of only seven Roman amphitheatres in the UK survives here which is open to the public for free. The name was originally believed to have come from the name Merlin hence the name Caerfyrddin- Merlins fort. Due to this a number of people believe that Merlin of the Arthurian legend was born in a cave outside the town! Luckily, not all of the towns people are like this and are all very polite and welcoming. The town is reachable by a train station or by the A40 which ends a bit further West from the town. Not to from the town are the National Botanic Gardens of Wales which are extremely beautiful at any time of the year and boast the largest single span glasshouse in the world. With the development of the market area to cater for Debenhams and various other big shops, Carmarthen is set to become a must visit town in the UK let alone Wales.
