Markinch is a small town/village in Fife. It is quite small but there is still a bustle about the place. The main street offers many shops and anything you could need on your doorstep is here - mini supermarket, chemist, takeaways, hairdressers and beauticians as well as some gift type shops. There are also some pubs and restaurants/hotels. The town benefits from having a train station which is part of the East Coast Mainline - it therefore makes it popular with commuters who have an easy journey to many larger towns/cities such as Kirkcaldy, Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee. Markinch is also within a 5 minute drive of Glenrothes which is a much larger town - here there is a main bus station (many routes passing through Markinch) and you will find a large shopping centre, supermarket, etc. So, Markinch has the best of both worlds - maintaining a small town/village feel while still enjoying the amenities that Glenrothes has to offer! Markinch seems to be continuing to grow with many new housing developments just built and continuing to be built. There are many nice walks around the area including the large Balbirnie Park which is right beside the town. There are some events held in Markinch throughout the year including the ever popular Highland Games. The local radio station, ''Kingdom FM'' is also brodcast from Markinch!
