Fairford is a quaint small village just east of Cirencester, and is home to the USAF, who are situated at RAF Fairford. This base is active all year round, and stages the biggest military airshow in the world, in the middle of July. This attracts around 200,000 visitors, and the village is turned into one giant line of traffic. The show is one of, if not the best around. For those aviation enthusiasts, visiting Fairford is a must as it will definetly satisfy your thirst for noise, action, and excellent photo opportunities.
There are several local farms dotted around the are which offer access to its fields leading up to and during the airshows for a nominal fee. As for the village itself, it''''s a proper little Cotswolds look, with the traditional brick house look. There are a few pubs along the way too which are very inviting, and that serve food. Access to Fairford itself is pretty easy as it is just off the A419 & A417 from Cirencester, and during airshow times there are several airshow route signs that help you find the way in to the show via the many country roads surrouding the airfield. A nice friendly, small village.
