I like going to Southampton for days out shopping somewhere different to normal although to be honest when you get there its pretty much the same shops as everywhere else. They are generally bigger branches though. Outside the main shopping area there is the Superstore area with Mothercare, Tescos at Home, and many more. There is a big Toys R Us and also a Mamas & Papas shop. There are plenty of places to eat in this area as well as a cinema/nightclub complex. I really only know about the main shopping area in Southampton so feel unqualified to comment on the city as a whole. Its easily accessible via car (M27), train, ship or plane (Eastleigh airport is only a few miles away) so getting in and out is not a big problem (unless you''re in a car at rush hour). You get the added bonus of sometimes seeing some very large ships in dock too.

Southampton is an upand coming modern City. It has 3 art galleries and 2 theatres. As a tourist there are several walks you can do to discover some of the history behing Southampton. You can take a tour following the signs which say "walk the walls". Many of the towers still stand to this day including Bargate which has a free art gallery featuring lots of modern art. There are several grade 2 listed parks which have been restored and are well worth a look in the summer with all the pretty flowers, sculptures and water features. Southampton has become one of the top 10 places to shop with West Quay shopping centre, Bargate and Mall marlands. There is loads of accomodation so do shop around as prices are varied. Night life is buzzing with casinos bars clubs and pubs. Leisure wold, located on West Quay Road has a huge cinema and bowling complex as well as bars and restaurants, and there are several night buses that run if you want to go out and drink with friends. The shopping really is fantastic but wear comfortable shoes as West Quay is huge.

Southampton is a very large city in Hampshire. It is home to Southampton Football Club, a well supported Championship Team. The shopping here is excellent with the West Quay Centre spread over four floors. It has shops such as Jane Norman, USC, French Connection, Ernest Jones and so on. In terms of going out, there is the top of the town, with chain places such as Yates''s. There is also the more upmarket side of town, centred around a place called Oxford Street. Here there are many bars and restaurants that offer a more expensive night out It is particularly popular with the footballers of Southampton. Kutis Indian restaurant is a particular highlight. Tere are two universities in Southampton, so always plenty of students around. This helps make the city feel young and vibrant. There are many areas of Southampton that also have their own high streets and identities, such as Shirley, Totton and Hedge End. Overall, it is a decent place to live and work.

Southampton is a great city where you can''''t really avoid not going there if you live in Hampshire because it has the docks which supply a really good ferry to the isle of wight. Also it has other big attractions like St Mary''''s arena, where the saints fans can watch their home team playing in home turf, and another big attraction is it''''s big shopping centre- west quey which has loads of label shops and food stalls, so its a day out. Also the actual building is an attraction in itself because its shaped sort of like a boat, and its simply stunning. Southampton has other attractions centered around the docks, and the history of the docks. Its a good city.

Southampton is a really good big good sized city. It has loads of shops, loads of restaurants, a big football team and lots more stuff. First of all to the shops. There is a big shopping center called West Key. It has loads of really nice shops in there ranging from clothes shops to sports shops to chocolate shops and any kind of shop you can really think of. It is a really nice shopping center and is well worth a day trip shopping there. Next to the restaurants, there are loads of really nice restaurants in Southampton and there are quite a few fast food places and cheap places. One of my favourite places to eat is "Dock of the Bay", it does really nice food and on sundays they do the best roast i have ever tasted. The portions are a good size and the food is of the highest quality. There are a few fast food places like McDonalds and Burger King and KFC. Those are just like you will think they are cheap, quick and not very good quality. They also have a pizza express and other chain restaurants. Southampton has a big football club called Southampton FC. It has a really big stadium called St Marys which is in a good locationand easy to acess. Overall southampton is a really nice city but wouldnt recommend living there.

This is a brilliant city and has a massive variety of people and places so you can go to a different part and feel like you''re in a completely different city. The fact its on the beach gives it a nice atmosphere and theres always that fun touristy buzz in summer time. The nightlife is pretty amazing and you have a huge choice of nightclubs that are all pretty near each other near the leisure centre. There are also tonnes of bars down the main strip. The drink prices really do vary from venue to venue, so if you''re a student then its worth checking out the student nights in different places, as the drink prices are usually dramatically lowered, which makes up for tha fact that its rammed. The people here are generally really down to earth and friendly and the locals tend to have good family values which makes the place a nice place to be. There are some good restaurants, including an oddly classy pizza express which is good for the family.

I like Southampton, however it is a shame about the football team.!!! The shopping in Southampton is brilliant, with the West Quay shopping centre offers a great deal of high street shops and designer shops to choose from. The parks out the back of the high street are a great place in the summer to soak up the sun and spend a quiet peaceful day there. There are a range of activites you can get up to there. The night life is excellent in Bedford place where there are clubs to suit different ages and down at the leisure centre where the new "Oceana" has been built and is proving itself to be a fine attraction at night. Ikea is in the process of being built and should be a good place to accumulate furniture from. The train station of Southampton central is a fair old walk to the centre of town, however the free bus service can transport you to the centre if you are really that lazy! Enjoy the Titanic city.

Southampton is a quite big city with a great industrial history (although no way as good as some of the bigger industrial cities in the North of England). Southampton has a population of over 200,000, of which over a quarter are in their 20s, making the clubbing scene in Southampton really really good. Southampton has a great public transport system and with the still quite new West Quay, the city has really good shopping district. With it''''''''''''''''s wide variety of evening entertainment and restaurants Southampton makes for a killer destination for all ages.

Great city! It is right next to the sea.. and in particular a great place to visit for a meal or a nice drink is along ocean village! It is perfect, especially on a summer evening! With great views! The shopping in southampton is modern and is stil growing with an IKEA being built as we speak, which is going to make the city even busier! There are 3 shopping centres; marlands, bargate and the main centre WEST QUAY, which is clean and well kept and holds alot of popular high street shops! It is a great night out, and has a brand new OCEANA which has just opened this summer (summer 08) and is a definite attraction to southampton as it is the biggest club on the south coast, with many guest appearances! There is a ferry/boat link to the isle of white and france even, so great links there! There is a lesiure world, which holds an exciting bowling complex and a big cinema - the odeon! There is southamptons football stadium, just out of the city centre, but not far, walking distance! Top city!

Living on the Isle of Wight, Southampton is the nearest real city to us, and is far better than anywhere on the island for shopping or nightlife! There''s a very fast passenger jet from Cowes (takes about 22 minutes) and a car ferry which takes about 55 minutes. From the ferry port, there is a free bus service that leaves every few minutes, and takes you into the city centre and the main shopping area of the city. Particularly good, is the West Quay shopping centre, a huge, three storey American-style shopping mall, with lots of major high street names, like Next, M&S, John Lewis, and several nice smaller clothes shops. They also have a Southampton football club shop, great for presents for Saints fans! There is a decent food court with McDonalds, Harry Ramsdens, a very nice subway style sandwich shop, and a couple of others. The mall is open until 6pm and 8pm on Thursdays, you could easily spend an entire day out here.
Not a huge tourist location, there are still some nice places to visit, a big city art gallery, and the contemporary Millais gallery connected to the Solent university. The city also boasts the largest theatre in the South of England (the Mayflower) and its Guildhall is the venue for some major pop and rock acts. It also used to hold a regular cd and record fair one Saturday a month, which was really enjoyable, although this doesn''t seem to continue over the summer. Worth a look if it comes back though!
