Winchester is a lovely City. Having been once the capital of England, Winchester is full of history which is pretty much round every corner. You pay a little over the odds for housing in and around Winchester and this forcing up the cost of living. Generally, a great city though.

I love Winchester! Its not too small and not too big, not sure that it has everything I would like, such as a Topshop or Primark. There are quite a lot of posh frock shops however if that is more what you are searching for. Winchester vibes are friendly I feel and some of the guys busking are awesome people! Theres a really good selection of restaurants and pubs to suit everyone and the city as a whole is well kept and atheistically pleasing.
The one way system is one to look outfox, not the easiest way to get in and out of the city but whats done is done.

Winchester is a lovely City! Many people travel from all over as it is full with historic features as it once was the capital. Many popular festivals are held in the land around Winchester for example Sanctury and Blissfeilds. The pubs are bars are all very friendly and there are two main clubs in the town centre. It is situated near the M25 and the train station is at the top of the town. I would recommend you go for a visit, its lovely!

Winchester is a really pleasant city, full of history (King Alfred, King Arthur being some of the names) and has some really beautiful reminders of its past all over the town centre. I have been privileged to have grown up near here. House prices are above average but everything else is great.

Winchester is a very picturesque city in the South of England. It is very beautiful, with numerous lovely walks no more than 15 minutes from the city centre, and the stunning Cathedral is a real wonder. There are many little boutiques scattered around, and nice cafes to sit in and watch the world go by. There are lots of things to do and see here, such as the cinema or the theatre, and it is only one hour on the train to London. Winchester has so much history and is such a pretty place to visit. There are also lots of nice pubs, such as The Wykeham Arms, or The Black Boy.

I really really love Winchester. Its such a vibrant little city. It has a great live music scene with most pubs putting on gigs now and again, there are lots of shops, and there is such a good atmosphere all the time in town. There are great schools and a college and also a University. Houses are expensive but its worth it!

I love living in Winchester! Even though there aren't as many shops as other places, I don't see this as a problem as the train and bus links to nearby cities like Southampton are very quick and efficient. I think Winchester's the best of both worlds- pretty, historical and fairly quiet as well as being near busier cities. The Cathedral and grounds are beautiful.

Winchester is a very historical city that used to be the capital of England. There are a number of shops around the city and it is a very popular place to live. There is a train station that is very good and has frequent trains both into and out of Winchester. The prices of houses is quite high and there are a number of good schools around.

Winchester, as voted as the best city in the UK, is a great example of how most towns should be. Although its a city, it does have a townish feel. If your into history, Winchester is rich in historical items from the ye olde Medieval to World War II monuments.

The main centre piece of Winchester, its cathedral, attracts thosends of tourists each year. Be aware tourist make up a big chunk of Winchesters constantly changing population.

Shopping is limited in Winchester. If you want to shop, go to Southampton, which is much better. Winchester does not feature a Topshop/man, H&M, Primark or Waitrose. They do have a Game, River Island and Next, but thats really the main extent of shopping.

Schools here are some of the best in the country. However, the mentality of some of the locals, mainly the upper class, is snobbish and shuns down apon others. Some people here are not the nicest.

Come to Winchester for history, but not for the shopping.

There is a reason why a couple of years ago Winchester was voted the number one town to live in the UK. I have lived in Winchester for quite a few years now and attend Peter Symonds College. The Local school around for a start are of very high standard, all achieving well above national averages, and Peter Symonds is no exception. The general services provided are good and up to date, for example the train connections at winchester station can take you pretty much anywhere in the UK without too many changes. It is a very historic city, and likes to keep it that way. Throughout town there is remnents from the past and often feature as local landmarks still to this day, for example the Buttercross statue in the centre of the highstreet, and the Cathedral of course.
The city is not the best for shops, with a fairly good selection, but not many of huge use or value. The Library is very well managed and has just recently been done up too. One of the best things about Winchester is the choice and quality of restaurants. I have to say you could not really be more spoilt for choice in a small city like Winchester.
It has a friendly atmosphere unlike some British towns and is situated in a lovely setting, with rolling hills and extensive countryside behind.

A wonderful, vibrant, historic and beautiful city with great character and heritage. Being the former capital of England you can tell it has history and bags of it; the cathedral is large with lovely grounds and there are often many events in the summer months on its large green. The city has a university and an outstanding college, Peter Symonds, which has an excellent reputation across the country, producing some of the finest writers, scientists and performers. Being such a grand and beautiful city the cost of living does exceed that of the national average, with house prices being nearly double so. The city has a large town centre with many bars, pubs and restaurants, most noticeably Raymond Blanc''s Brasserie and the Loch Fyn.

I love visiting Winchester. It is a town steeped in History due to its past. Winchester has a magnificent Cathedral in its centre and this draws a lot of tourists to the area. The grounds around the Cathedral are stunning and many people spend the day walking round the grounds. If your into your walks then Winchester is the right place for you. Nice walks can be had along the river that leads to the town and Cathedral. Winchester is also good for shopping. There are a number of big retail shops in the town as well as local stores and plenty of pubs and restaurants.. I have never experienced the nightlife in Winchester but i have heard good things.

Winchester is such a lovely place and I could see why it used to be the old capital! I''ve lived here and around the area for around 10 years and have always loved it. It has everything you need in a city whilst not being to big. It also has a very old history of being the old capital and many building in winchester are still in the old tudor style. In general Winchester is such a nice place to live and you never feel threatened walking around it like you would in the outskirts of London etc. I will continue to live here for quite some time as it also has many schools like Kings, Westgate and collage''s such as Peter Symonds. Many music festivals take place here like Winfest, etc and the city offers a vast amount of entertainment. However like any other city it does have some (not so nice place''s). For example jsut outside Winchester is Winnall(to be fair it is rather industrial) and some nicer places like Week and Oliver''s Battery. All in all Winchester is a highly reccomended place to live or to stay.

Winchester is a lovely town in Hampshire. It was recently voted one of the best places to live in England. It is on a hill. There are many famous sites in Winchester and lots of things to do. There is the Westagte which is a tremendous gate with lots oh history. There is the huge Cathedrak with its stunning grounds. There are many more histroic places as well. There are lots of good schools here as well. The Westgate is a fantastic shool and was named after the historic gate. It also has Kings which is also a great school. Saint Cathrins hill has a good view from it and is beautiful. There is a main high street which has lots and lots of shops on it. There are loads of chain shops like Thorntons, Fat Face, O2, Marks and Spencers, Next and lots more. It also has lots of smaller shops like a really nice chocolate shop and a few really nice bakers. Reeve the baker is exceptionaly good and tasty. There are lots of big supermarkets in and just out of town. There is a huge Tescos in Winnall. There are also some smaller ones in town like Sainsburys.

I visited Winchester a few months ago on a day trip and was impressed with this picturesque little city. The main attraction (and who could miss it) was the Cathedral, it was a magnificent building oozing character and history and was really beautiful. The city itself was tidy and had a really nice atmosphere about it. There was a lovely park we sat in to eat lunch and then looked around the shops before stopping off in a pub for a drink with our dog we had taken along. The city seemed like a really nice place to live and although I was only on a day trip there I was impressed with what the old capital city had to offer.

Winchester, in under 200 words, where to begin.... As a child i was brought up in the outskirts of this former capital city (which i hasten to add deserved the title and, frankly still should) living in the city, gave me fantastic access to the city, and all of its secrets and wonders. As you walk down the high street, theres is a certain atmosphere that makes you feel welcomed. Being located in the heart of hampshire, to me it seems the centre of the area and the meeting point for young and older generations. To me the centre of winchester is the buttercross, a magnificent landmark, which represents unity and community of the city itself, shopping in winchester is enjoyable, fun, and not a chour, all the shops are adjacent to the high street for easy access. A day out to Winchester is fun for all the family and i honestly cant think of anything negative about the city. 10/10 for me and i''m sure everyone agrees.

Winchester is a really great city to live in, with loads of historic ventures such as the king Arther and the round table and loads more around maybe because it used to be the county''s treasury. Winchester attracts annual tourist around the country to '' the hat fair '' which is a street acts festival , and it''s great! My personal favorite is maybe the oldest act going to the hat fair- their called Haggis and Charley, and their finale is where they are on huge six foot unicycles juggling six fire sticks. It''s well worth going just because of them. Anyway Winchester besides being very historic, the shopping is OK, and the new library is huge and great! Before it got extended they had to remove historic remains ! so there''s no escape of it''s history, anyway the library has a stage, free internet, a king Alfred exhibition, really good DVD renting for about a week for free! Plus they have some good sofas and chairs to reed in peace, and a shop to buy some of the books, and merchandise leading off the King Alfred exhibition. Oh yeah and the BOOKS!- amazing. Winchester is a city worth going to, which proves because Hampshire used to be the most desired place to live in in England, and Winchester is the best city in Hampshire so it proves that errrr............... WINCHESTER ROCKS

Winchester is a lovely place to buy a house because there''s low crime rates and there''s a few police to get rid of that crime. Everywhere is nice and there some huge houses about. There are quite a lot of shops in Winchester but you shouldn''t really aim to go on a shopping spree there, I think you''d better go to Southampton for something like that. There are lots of good schools in winchester and the cinema is a nice touch but it doesn''t show that many films. The night life is alright but there aren''t that many nightclubs. I recommend Winchester for small families that are looking for a nice, calm place to live. Also there is a lovely cathedral and great historical buildings all throughout Winchester. I give Winchester a 9/10 rating because it has some downsides but it''s not nice to mention them...

Winchester is a really lovely and historic city.. it is very quiet and a lovely place to visit if you don''t want to delve into the hustle and bustle of the nearest city - southampton! Winchester is a very middle class town, the houses are quite expensive, but they are set in such lovely scenery - close to the rural lanscape of the hills and countryside nearby. There is a great selection of quality restaurants, which is excellent for such a small town. As for shopping.. not the best, but it is alot quieter than the main city southampton.. and it is a great place to visit little boutiques etc. As for nightlife.. there is a small selection of bars.. but no real outrageous clubs!!!

Winchester is a nice quiet place whch has a lot of history about it. It used to be the capital city of England a few hundred years ago. The cathedral holds a lot of history. The river Itchen flows through the centre of the city and is a nice to sit beside in the summers sun. The shopping high street is old and tudor. There are overhanging buldings which shadow the high street. There are even some thatched roofs. All of the buildings hold the regular high street stores. Peter symmonds is the College in Winchester it has a lot of history behind it and it is a nationally known college. It also has good transport links including the train station near the centre of town, the southampton airport is just down the road and also there is a bus route which interlinks winchester with basingstoke and southampton.

Winchester is extremely beautiful and is one of Britain''s historic towns. Winchester has a famous cathedral which is definitely worth visiting not least as it is the longest Cathedral in Europe. Winchester is surrounded by plenty of other historic sites such as Wolvesey castle and Winchester Castle. Not being too far away from London makes this a great place to visit for a day out or over a weekend and is easy to get to by road or rail. Winchester is another town which gives a fascinating insight into life in England many years ago and it is amazing that so many historic structures still remain and are in great condition today.
