I found Gainsborough to be a strange town almost broken into two halves by redevelopment. On one side, there is the brand new, modern Marshall''s yard shopping centre which is like a town in itself with 26 shops and many more places to eat. They even hold a farmers market here rather than in the original market square! But on the other side of the town is the original run down and neglected town centre of Gainsborough with the grotty market and dull forgotten shops. I have to say the Marshall''s yard shopping centre was very pleasant with fountains and glass fronted shops of all types and plenty of parking. Sadly, it seems that the money generated by the shopping centre doesn''t seem to have diffused into the original town centre which could really do with a cash injection to get it back on its feet. You can get everything you need from the shopping centre so there is little attraction to go into the original town centre which seems to have been left to become more and more dilapidated which is a great shame.
This place would be fantastic if you had the shopping centre with all the usual high street shops and the town centre with more independent shops for more specialist items but as it is I found it to be a bit of a let down having travelled a fair distance to visit.

Gainsborough is a small town situated between Lincoln, Scunthorpe and Doncaster. It is nothing out of the ordinary but is a relatively nice and affordable place to live, which nice views from the surrounding countryside. In recent years Gainsborough has become a more popular place with lots of new houses being build focusing on families and young professionals with the lovely reiverside apartments. Due to the expansion, it has also meant new shops have been built including the Marshalls Yard shopping area, which now hosts a range of top names shops such as Laura Ashley, Next and New Look, where as we have had nothing like that before. The market square itself, still hosts a number of shops although there is quite a few wmpty properties and locals fear it could become a ghost town especially as smaller business are going bankrupt and closing down due to the credit crunch. There is a large selection of pubs and clubs in the town itself, all of which are pleasant to drink in although nothing which stand out, that is with the expection of the new Sands Venue and State Club and cinema which has just been built. The Sands Venue is the only real classy restaurant in town offering a range of entertainment and special nights such as tribute act and live bands, even some celebrity appearances. The State club on the other hand is now the only popular nightclub in Gainsborough, which offers a huge dance floor, seating area and VIP area. Gainsborough just seems to be getting bigger and popular at the minute and hopefully it will keep doing so.

Gainsborough is a small town west of Lincoln with some good parks, a shopping complex with a variety of shops with a pedestrainised area which makes shopping that bit more pleasureable. The parks are well equipped with a range of play equipment for different ages. The road network is a bit of a pain, it can take a while sometimes as you often get snarled up behind a slow moving vehicle. I''ve always felt very safe in and around Gainsborough and it''s a nice place to visit. Oh, also the usual pubs and clubs nothing out of the ordinary but they''re nice enough and again i''ve always felt sate.
