Dalkeith is in Midlothian in Scotland, and is very close to the capital city of Edinburgh, from which it is easily reached.

The town is a great place to go shopping, as there are quite a few shops. The area is also close to some beautiful countryside, and, as mentioned above, to the capital city of Edinburgh.

The population of the town is about 15, 000.

The founding of the town is not apparent, but it is sure that Dalkeith existed in the 1200s.

There are some interesting places to visit in this town.

Firstly, there is a castle in the town which njoyedd an interesting history- it belonged, of course, to the Scots originally, but was taken by the English.

You might enjoy visiting Rosslyn Chapel (which I believe was mentioned in the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, and features in the film of the same now). I have not been inside, but I have seen pictures and it seems very beautiful- all white inside with some beautiful carvings.

Near to Dalkeith, is Newbattle Abbey College, which I have visited and which is very beautiful. The history of this building is very interesting, as it was built by monks who were a part of the coal mining industry (a major industry in the area). Recently, there have been some interesting finds in the grounds. The grounds are themselves lovely.

All in all, Dalkeith, despite itts chilly climate, is an interesting place to visit, especailly if you like to learn about histroy. However, I must admit I do prefer other towns nearby, and particularly, Edinburgh, where there are more services for the obviously larger population.
