I used to visit Linlithgow often as a child as my granny stayed here. It is a large town situated on what was origianlly the main road between Edinburgh and Stirling which is now the high street. There is a main railway line which makes it easy to commute to Edinburgh and Glasgow. There is also a canal which many boats use, it used to always be great to sit and watch and you can also go for a walk along the path at the side of it. Down at what I think of as the front of Linlithgow is a loch which is very beautiful and has plenty of ducks and swans to feed with a play park close to it as well so ideal for a good day out for young children.
Linlithgow has seen has a lot of development over the years with a lot more houses in it now. It is a very popular place to stay outwith the city centres. There are also five primary schools and a very good Academy which makes it popular for families but this has led to a shortage of school places. There are quite a few shops along the main street and a little square area at the end of the main street which has a Tesco supermarket on it.
The one thing which I like most about Linlithgow is The Palace it looks amazing and overlooks the loch.

i used to live near to linlithgow when i was growing up and i visited linlithgow quite regularly. most of the houses are quite nice and there are a few shops in the town centre but not many, there are just the usual supermarkets and essentials and not many highstreet shops but linlithgow is quite near edinburgh and is a very short train or bus ride to the city so its not difficult to find all the highstreet shops you need.. the main thing i remember about going to linlithgow as a child is going to visit the little park by the loch, then sitting by the loch with a bag of chips trying to fight off the swans! on nice days it is lovely to walk around the loch or sit by it and children love to feed the ducks. there is also a small playpark where children can play. linlithgow is also home to linlithgow palace which is a great historic monument and is very interesting if you visit. there are permits available if you wish to fish on the loch and there is also boat hire.

I was a resident of Linlithgow for approx 18 years. It is a large town with some very nice scenery to it. Has 5 primary schools and 1 high school. As said in the previous review it has a bit of history to it. There is a palace (Linlithgow Palace) where the Mary Queen of Scots was born. It is owned by the National Trust and is well worth a look around. The grounds around the outside of the palace are free to walk around and is quite pleasant on a nice day. There is a loch in the centre of Linlithgow which you can walk all the way round and can also be used for fishing as long as a permit is bought. Fishing boats can also be hired. Also there is a canal up the hill a little where you can take boat rides for the day. I think from memory these only run on the weekends. A sports centre exists on the outskirts of town which has a gym, swimming pool, and sports hall for most activities. Very nice place to visit for a day and especially nice on a sunny day. A day is probably all you need though to see the sites and scenery.

Linlithgow is a fairly large town close to Edinburgh. It has a long history as a royal burgh but perhaps most importantly it has great transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow through motorways and direct trains. For this reason it is a popular place to live, and there are some very nice houses in the town. The town centre is fairly small and the scope of the shops is fairly limited, but it has a couple of good supermarkets and there is little need for more shops given how quickly you can get into the centre of Edinburgh on the train. Trains keep running until pretty late so it is possible to have a night out in Edinburgh and still get home cheaply. All in all a very nice place to live, but if some enthusiastic local tries to tell you that Linlithgow Rose (the local football team) are amazing then be warned, they''re lying, they really aren''t amazing!
