Southport is a lovely seaside town that was both popular in Victorian times as it is today. It offers a great variety of entertainment for the young and the old and a vast array of hotels, bed and breakfasts, and holidays rentals such as caravans, apartments, flats etc of all standards from basic and homely to it's newest 5* hotels.
Southport boasts a fantastic choice of places to eat and drink also and is a great all round resort.
From the aspect of living in Southport, you have all the fantastic amenities a resort brings, entertainment, places to eat, a beach, parks, etc etc and the benefit of some great shops and a very lovely town overall which is also reasonably flat attracting the more mature visitor too.

Southport is a seaside town near Liverpool and Blackpool. There are frequent and direct train links from Merseyside and all along the Manchester line. Regular buses run from Preston also.
Southport is a prefect place for a family day out, there is a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and fish and chip shops, from 5* bars to traditional family run take aways.
The highstreet in the town has all the main shops such as a big Marks and Spencer, Debhanams, TK Maxx as well as small individual shops in the towns arcades, Cambridge Walks off Chapel Street and the Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street.
Parking in the town is easy, there is a large multi story and many other smaller car parks dotted around, all sign posted well.
A main attraction is the sea front with a pier and retail park with popular restaurant chains shops and activities such a miniature golf. Parking at the Ocean Plaza retail park is free all day when you are using the facilities, and 2 hours is free when you are not.
The newly restored pier has transport to the end where there is a cafe overlooking the beach.
The nightlife in Southport is good considering it is only a town, plenty of pubs and a selection of a few small nightclubs/bars. Including a Wetherspoons, an RnB bar called Rockin' Asia and a new gay bar called Superstar boudoir, entry to these places is sometimes free and never more than £5.
Southport is famous for its many golf courses and hosts a wide range or prices from Royal Birkdale to smaller clubs.
For a family event there is a swimming pool with slides and rides near the seafront.

Southport is another example of a great family day out, having a friend live there is even better as we do not need to worry about finding accomodation. We regularly take the kids there and they thoroughly enjoy it. There is plenty to do and see and although Pleasureland has closed and there is little to offer on that front it still has an awful lot going for it. There are plenty of bars and restaurants for anyone wishing to eat or drink there. There is plenty of accomodation if this is needed and plenty of places to stock up on rock, buckets and spades for the kids. There is a new complex at the end of the promenade and I highly recomend you check this out.

Southport is a lovely seaside resort. There used to be a large fairground which has now been removed, although they have replaced some smaller rides so it is still quite good for the younger ones.Southport has just undergone a major regeneration. The pier stretches out right into the sea and on a clear day you can often see blackpool across the water. They have now built a large shopping complex on the front which also has a cinema and plenty of lovely places to have something to eat. There is large playing feilds for the little ones to run about and play. The lake is lovely and great for watching the boats go by.The beach is alot cleaner than it used to be and they often provide donkey rides for the kids. The water is not very clean i wouldn''t go for a swim in it and its very cold.Theres is plenty of arcades in the area and loads of souvineer shops for all you gifts. There is a merrygoround just outside one of the big arcades which is a hit for the young and old.The train station is right in the middle of the town with trains arriving from all areas. Most often they have markets on which sell foods from all over the country and prices are reasonable. There is a mini golf course and also a bigger course.

Southport is a traditional seaside resort with a theme park on the front and beach that has sandy beaches for as far as the eye can see in both directions on a clear day you can see accross to blackpool and even beyond, the foothills of the lake district.
For tourists Southport is a great place to visit, it caters for anyone of all ages and with its large amount of hoels and b and b''s your never short of anywhere to stay and Southport people are so friendly they will make you feel most welcome to the town.
There is a marine lake which holds a fantastic firework championship every year and draws in people from all over the country, its well worth a visit just for that.
Lord Street is Southports famous shopping street containing all different types of shops for different people with the famous Broardbents and Boothroyds department stores making it convenient to shop in as you get many different shops under one roof.
There have recently been many changes in Southport town centre with the pedestrianisation of one of the main roads which im not sure if its popular or not, a bit of a hassle for drivers....
Overall Southport is a great place to visit with pleanty of history and the famous Birkdale golf course is a short bus journey away too.

Southport is a nice place. It boasts many different things and one of these is the beach. The tide can be very unpredictable but otherwise the beach is beautiful. There are many different restaurants and there is good shopping to be found also. Moreover, the hotels in the town are quite good and the travel links with Liverpool an other areas means that it can be a great base to stay whilst discovering the area. Also, if you like golf then you should definitely visit Southport. There are not one, not two but seven different championship golf courses and there are also three Royal courses which are easy to get to. The town has a good night life and the town is host to lots of different live shows, festivals and other such events. The people are very nice in general and I havennt visited a shop there without being treated well and quickly. The town also has a number of very pretty buildings which give the town a great feel and character. Itts a vibrant and yet traditional place which has a lot to offer for many people.

The small but busy town of Southport is a seaside resort on the North-West coast of England. The traffic and town planning has been destroyed by recent changes, one way systems; pedestrianisation; narrowing of roads. The shopping choice is adequate but not adventurous, and there are shops that supply you with what you need. There is a very pleasant atmosphere for strolling along the boulevard and the main shopping street (Lord Street).
The wide pavements allow pavement cafe''s to bring a light to the town.
there''s a lot of updating and refurbishing of the pavements, walls and streets, but whether it''s beneficial is yet to be seen.
Chapel Street has been pedestrianised and has improved that street a lot, but at the same time it has destroyed the surrounding areas for traffic flow.
There are good park and ride services at 1 a day for visitors to the town, but for the locals the lack of on street parking isn''t any good.
For locals in Southport, many attractions have been taken away in recent years, and now there is barely anything to do in the holidays.
Since the fair was taken away, the town has been less exciting seeing as it was one of Southport''s most famous attractions. Although this has gone, there has been a new waterpark built nearby the old location of the fair, and is attached to Dunes Leisure Centre. This has been very popular, and has brought something back to Southport.
The beach isn''t one of the nicest, and has gradually turned into marshland, with the sea so far out it takes a while to reach the puddles from it - i wouldn''t choose to spend a holiday on it! The pier runs over the beach and is quite long, with a penny arcade at the end, with different old-fashioned machines to try out, and nice seating areas just outside that look over the sea and you can just about see Blackpool in the distance.
