Kirby moorside is lovely, although its very small so whilst drinving if you blink you would miss it. There is a couple of small shops and pubs which are all lovely, They staff and locals were very pleasant and happy to talk to us. It seemed very quiet, but asthough everyone knew everyones buisness with it being so small. But i would reccomend stopping and having a meal in one of th e pubs if your passing through. There is some nice scenery also if you like walking. we parked the car up and took the children for a nice walk round and they seemed to enjoy it as much as we did

Kirbymoorside has class and character. If you drive too fast, you''ll miss it. It surely must be one of those places where everyone knows everybody else''s business. There is a fair share of loitering there but hey, at least you know exactly where your kids are. There isn''t anywhere else for them to go to.
The building are pretty fresh and clean. There are a couple of unique pubs there. Again, nice and tidy places that have both class and character. If I lived there, I''d have to play my fair share of golf there to keep myself busy. It does look like a great place for walking, if you are into that.
I found the little shops there to be unique and the people working in them to be friendly too. Kirbymoorside probably isn''t for everyone but I liked it and would recommend a visit there. It makes a great pit stop for those traveling through.

Kirby Moorside is a beautiful place. Itts a quiet market town with some fabulous shops and unlike nearby Helmsley it tries to keep itself off the tourist trap. In fact the shops are more individual and interesting than Helmsley so itts a bit of a hidden secret! A lot of the buildings are built from the stone from the moors and it is very picturesque. There is an area called the shambles that goes back hundreds of years and is like stepping back in time.
It is known as the Gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors for obvious reasons. My father lives there now and so we have been to stay many times. There are some historically interesting buildings in Kirby including Buckingham House that George Villiers, the 2nd Duke of Buckingham died in, and two castles though one is really just a bump on a hill! It is only 27 miles from York, which is a fab place to shop and visit and 25 miles from the coast at Scarborough.
Kirby Moorside has a weekly market on a Wednesday and my father has a stall there so make sure you visit! The town itself is full of interesting and individual little shops for instance it has a Chemist that is also an Off-licence - one of only two in the country! It is called Towlers and on one side of the shop it is your regular chemist and on the other wine and spirits etc!
Kirby also has some great gift shops, and a fantastic organic shop called McConnel Thomas, where everything is organic, not only great fruit and veg but washing up liquids, soaps, food etc.
There is a golf course just outside Kirby and of course, being so close to the Moors, if you like to walk or climb then Kirby or Helmsleigh would be a great place to base your self.
