Thirsk is a small pretty market town set in North Yorkshire. It is easily accessible just off the A19 and also has a train station.
Shopping here is rather limites - few high street names and some little local shops. A big new Tesco has been built here just on the outskirts of the town, opposite the racecourse.
There are numerous pubs in the town centre but you won't have a wild night out in Thirsk you will need to travel further afield for this.
Thirsk has a big racecourse, where regular meetings are held and there is a Caravan Club campsite on the racecourse ( not right in the middle of it!)
Also a good base for visiting the Yorkshire Dales and about half an hours drive to York - probably easiest to get the train.
Worth a visit if you are passing through. Home of James Herriot.

It''''s been a long time since I went to Thirsk but I remember it was a very picturesque market town like many in the area. I do remember staying in the Hillside Camping site in Thirsk when I was a kid particularly well and enjoyed it very much. I''''d say Thirsk is a great camping area when visiting the North Yorkshire Moors due to its central location and surrounding unspoiled countryside. the people that also go to thirsk are really nice and polite and talk to you with respect and if you have children they talk to the children aswell

Thirsk is a good little place to visit. Although there may not be many tourist type places to visit, I like it because it is all right there in front of you. Most of the shops face each other in a square with a few side streets that host small little businesses. If you want a nice peaceful stroll in a safe place, Thirsk is a great place. Not far off, you can see the horses race if you enjoy some excitement. Thirsk has easy access from the A19 and A1 motorways. You can also access it by coach and train within easy reach of town. There are plenty of little cafe''s and a coffee shop or two for a nice bite to eat and a hot drink. Thirsk is a great stop before heading on to other locations as well. York is only about 20 minutes away and Middlesbrough around the same.
