Having lived in Witney for the greater part of my life but not all of it, I can safely say that the old adage of grass is not always greener on the other side certainly applies to Witney. On the edge of the Cotswolds, Witney holds a perfect location whether you are wanting to be within easy reach of some of the prettiest villages and wonderful countryside or be nice and convenient for the historical city which is Oxford. There are numerous pubs both in and around Witney as well as plenty of shops to peruse (market on thursday) if/when the rainy weather gets a bit too much to handle!! Hotels also aplenty so there is always room to rest a weary head.

Although I''m not sure how near this town is to a city, I think if you don''t mind the quiet life, this is pretty nice place to live from what I could tell from my afternoon visit. They have some good shops, including a game for the boys, a pretty average new look for the girls, and lots of chinese restaurants and curry houses for the family. St Marys church is pretty and worth a look if you''re passing through, and they have some quaint and friendly little b and b''s if you need them.
