I love Oakham so much so we got married here in May!!! It''s like an old rustic town and you can walk around and feel very safe. There are lots of little shops around but don''t come if you want big department stores, it''s not that kinda town!!! They have the castle here that you can hire out for weddings and functions and you can go and look round the gardens. They have a few good pubs around and you do get the feeling that everyone knows everyone else but I like that about the place. It''s very clean and all children seem so well behaved!!! Of course you have Rutland Water nearby so all the surroundings are perfect. It truly is a picture perfect place. Wish I could afford to live here cause I would in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

i love oakham i find it a beautiful lovely place i used to visit family in oakham every week and loved walking around, close to oakham is rutland water which is a huge resevoir as is so beautiful and i believe a 25 mile walk all round, you can also cycle around the resevoir it is a great place to go with the family and if chidren have energy to burn off take them here they can run around and be safe, there is lovely picnic areas and also a cafe there, the toilets are very large and are kept sad clean as you could expect, the car parking charge is very reasonable too, there are 4/5 parts of rutland water and one is a nature reserve which is stunning to see all the wildlife in there natural home. and there is always plenty to do here alto it cam get fairly busy as lots of schools do school trips here but the children are normally behaved so is not too bad.
i like oakham as it is very peaceful and quite and feel safe here, there are little shops which adds to the feel of a peaceful town, i would recommend a trip to oakham and a trip to rutland water close by.

Oakham is a lovely town with some lovely shops. I always associate Oakham hosting more upper class people as the school there seems to be extremely popular and from what I hear, can be difficult to get into. The county of Rutland that Oakham belongs to is the smallest county in the UK. It is close to Rutland water which is a massive man lake that is well worth a visit, although wear comfy shoes and take drinks with you particulary in the summer months. The Burley horse trials are held nearby and are very enjoyable. I have always felt safe in Oakham. Well worth a visit.

My uncle was based at a raf base not far from oakham and i always stayed there , During this we always went into oakham for the day on a saturday , There is a few things to do and its
rather a friendly town , The bus routes are brilliant always running and very regular , they have a train station also so thats gotta help with the busy ness of the town location,
There is a very pretty castle which is opening to visitors most days and they didnt charge but unsure if they do Now,This can also be booked out for functions and other meetings.
If you visit oakham your bound to hear someone mention oakham school because it is so popular with local and even further afield
There are a few pubs in the town but there very friendly and make you feel welcome.
If your in the area its very worth a visit.
Its very pretty and they also hold events all year round.
thumbs up from me.
