Oswestry in shropshire is named after a king Oswald of Northumbria, who died in AD641. He was nailed to a tree - hence the name "Oswald''s Tree".!!! learn something everyday...dont you lol !!
Oswestry is very close to wales and on a clear day you can see a lot of the welsh hills from Oswestry.
Oswestry has become a natural setting for a wonderfull and vibrant market town and today has the largest street market in the Borderlands, with more than its fair share of specialty shops and wonderfull pubs and with the market stalls showing what a truly vibrant market town should be. The influence of Wales is still strong and quite alot of people in the town (when i was there) were speaking welsh. You''ll also see alot of wonderfull unique creativity of the local arts and crafts that are not only at the market but also in a lot of the shops...if your into art etc this would be a lovely town to vist. There are also some lovely bed and breakfasts in Oswestry which range in stars and prices but a good deal can def be found. Park hall is also a wonderfull place to vist if you have family there is lots to do horse rides for children and you are also able to buy food and feed the sheep/lamps in spring. I have always found people in the main town of oswestry to be really friendly and helpfull, we got lost....i dont know how !! i wasnt driving haha ! and the lady we stoped to ask got her little note pad out and jotted the way down...we found it.......but we were never able to tell her hope she vists helphound one day

Oswestry a lovely historical market town in Shropshire. We that is my dad and I visited several months ago now, the intention was to see Park Hall Camp. This is where he started when he joined the army. But time has taken its toll, as the camp that was is no longer.
Oswestry itts self I was fascinated with, as was dad he says that and I agree with him the some buildings there are old timber framed houses. A mixture of architectural styles. The narrow roads and the people of Oswestry themselves were just like old friends, making you feel most welcome. The surrounding countryside was a pleasure to be in. overall all be it a brief visit I loved it in Oswestry and will go back. Next time I do I will update this report as I am sure that Oswestry has a lot more to offer

Oswestry is a lovely historical market town in Shropshire it sits right on the border to wales.
The town centre is full of black and white buildings and narrow passage ways and streets. It has a few indepent shops and has lost none of the charm that a lot of places have now.
Oswestry has a some wonderfull buildings such as the old grammer school which is a 15th century listed building .
Near to oswestry is whittington castle ( well the remains of it )
There are a few restuarants and bars which will cater to your every need also the accomadtion at Ashfield farmhouse is brilliant and the owners Margaret and David are really most wonderful people.
All of the people in and around Oswestry that i have met have been the most friendly of anywhere .
Park hall is fab especially if you have children as there is so much to see and do including feeding the lambs and a huge indoor play area I would however give the vintage garage here a miss as it really isnt worth looking at very few exhibits.Oswestry also has the Oswestry Show which takes place on the showground at park hall this takes place on the first saturday of august every year.
