Somerset is a lovely place to visit. It has some of the most beautiful scenery in England. The scenery varies from the landscapes of the Brendon Hills, to the moors of Exmoor. There are also hundreds of little villages all within the farming community which are worth a visit. Dunster has an amazing history and is one of the stops on the west somerset railway. Dunster Castle is a sight to see, and the best time of year to go is probably in late november early december, when the village hosts a local event called Dunster by Candlelight which is truely an awesome sight. Whilst exeter is famed for its shopping as well as its historic cathedral. I believe that it is the smaller, less well known places which give Somerset its identity. Places like chedder gorge and wookey hole, located in the mendips whilst not appearing on national maps are amazing tourist attractions as is the paper mill at wookey hole. Other places to visit include the Yeovilton Air Field, which holds special air Somerset offers the opportunity to do all sorts of activities from caving and rockclimbing at various centres, to orienteering and water sports. The best place for Watersports is Wimberball lake, a dam located in the quantocks which provides perfect conditions for kayaking and sailing.
I really like Somerset. Although it isn''t the most happening place in england for nightlife and things like that it is extremely beautiful. There are lots of small places to discover and it''s very easy navigating between the towns thanks to their little quaint signposts. There are small cultural towns like Bruton to see and then you can head to bigger places like Bristol (If that''s in somerset... I may have got that wrong.. it''s close anyway). It''s pretty much picnic heaven with hundreds of rolling fields. The towns aren''t at all as commercial as the rest of britain, think lots of butchers, fishmongers, old churches and charity shops. That is actually something I have noticed about somerset towns, there are SO many charity shops for some reason. Some towns are a little small and run down but just do some research before you go. For beaches devon and dorset can be a bit nicer.
