Bridgwater is a small town that has few decent shops, it does however really need updating as it did used to have good shops. It does have alot of pubs and a couple of clubs. It does have a reputation but there are some nice people here and it does have some nice things about it. Bridgwater has a cinema it's not big but big enough, it has a fun swimming pool- splash which also has a toddler pool and a gym they also have a river run, slides and operate waves in the pool. The town also has a museum which is free to get into, a libuary which has a great selection of books. Many diy shops and supermarkets and a range of resturants. Bridwater is also famous for it's fair which is towards the end of september for a few days it also has a carnival which is amazing but i would recomend going to North petherton carnival as it's much better run.

As an outsider from Exeter, I have been living in Bridgwater for 3 years.

I have found that many of the people I have met were born in Bridgwater and havn''t realy ever been anywhere else.

The town itself is small and limited in facilites however if you look hard, you will find a few nice places on the outskirts. For example there are some beautiful ponds right on the outskirts and there is also a nice walk along the side of the river Parrot which runs through the centre of the town.

There are lots of pubs and not much else! :) The nightlife isn''t great as there is only one proper night club and the rest of the pubs aren''t really targeted at the younger market.

The shops are small and limited but there is a good sized library and a good swimming pool as well as quite a few parks around the town. There are a lot of supermarkets around the town but not really alot of places you can take children. The town centre is pedestrainised and the rest of the town is one way for cars. Bridgwater, on the whole, is very spread out with shops and housing estates littered all over the place which can be quite inconvienient.

The train station is un-reliable and not very convienient as the services are limited. Likewise wth the bus services out of Bridgwater. The local services around the town, generally dont operate after 6pm!!

Bridgwater carnival takes place towards the end of the year and is definately worth seeing. And there is also a travelling fun fair which visits Bridgwater for a week, once a year and it really changes the whole atmosphere of the town! There are lots of stalls on the streets and it is really nice to be around.

There are oftn continental markets or farmers markets in the town centre which is worth going to have a look at.

The job prospects for the town are few and far between and are largely manual positions in factories and in my opinion there is never really much to do.

In my opinion the town isn''t somewhere I would choose to come and visit however if you live in the area it does offer the basics for a good day out.
It is like a ghost town that time forgot!

There are certain parts of Bridgewater that are rougher than others, but this is like many industrial towns. Some of the pubs are rough and for the locals only.

If you go into the centre of the town things are much better. The high street has a variety of high street brands and DIY stores. There is a lovely swimming pool called Sedgemoor Splash which has a small pool, water slides and a lazy river.

If you take a walk by the River Parrot there is some quite nice scenery and the walks stretch for miles around the surrounding countryside.

The biggest attractions in Bridgewater are the annual carnival and fayre. The Fayre has various rides and lots of typical fayreground stalls. The carnival is very popular throughout Somerset attracting thousands every year.

Bridgwater is a pretty average somerset town. I think perhaps in another county it could be thought of as quite nice but it doesn''t stand up to the surrounding somerset beautiful towns. It does have stuff to do though and has a nice river, some pretty cool monuments, a couple of pubs (no drinking life really though - I have tried), the guy falkes carnival is pretty good and the church is alright. It''s basically not very disagreeable but I wouldn''t go there for a night out. close enough to the sea to be quite an advantage. architecture on some of the houses is nice.

Bridgewater did not used to be a very nice place to visit on account of the smell and the light headed feeling that you experienced. However since the plastic factory closed the town smells slightly better. It is a town that throughout Somerset is not thought very highly of, as it is well in need of bringing up to date, and a bit of a polish. It is quite dilapidated, as many factory towns are known for being and whilst it has all the amenities you would expect, cinema, bowling alley, college, and high street shopping. It doesnnt tend to be somewhere that you would visit for fun. It has a high volume of traffic as well which doesnnt help as is the main passage through west Somerset onto the M5. The only two positive points that i can think of are the annual carnival, which is a sight to see! Itts famous for its amazing volume of lights and high electricity bill no doubt! But it also brings the town together in a sense of community spirit! The other thing it is worth visiting Bridgewater for is the annual funfair! Its one of the biggest in Somerset and has an amazing carnival atmosphere, and also invites massive crowd every year so you can be sure its definitely worth seeing!
