I like to come here September time when there isn''t all the major holiday makers around. It has a nice feel to it with the wind blowing in your hair, it''s a traditional holiday with chips and ice cream, donkey rides and the beach is nice with nice clean golden sand. There''s an Apex Park - A wildlife haven in Burnham which includes places to fish, a children''s play area, skate park and walks. There is a huge amount of places to eat to suit everybodies tastes. There is lots to do, fishing, golf, shopping, amusements, crafts etc. It is a lovely place but can get very busy during holiday time.

B-O-S (Burnham on sea) is a bit of an enigma....there are times when it is fantastic, and you cant imagine wanting to be anywhere else....and then the holidays come around and you just want to get out of town.
Out of the peak holiday seasons, as a local, it is fabulous. The beach is flat, sandy and very safe for the kids (so nice when it''''s empty), the arcades are fun for an hours entertainment for a few pennies. You can park on most of the roads, so you dont really have to pay to park next to the beach! Speaking of the beach, it''''s huge, there is so much of it and if you keep walking north, you will end up in Berrow then Brean. The dunes are great, the kids go exploring, and at the north end of the beach is the infamous lighthouse, which is quite a sight.
However, when the town is full of tourists it''''s another matter. There is a funny smell that lingers around, you cant park anywhere, and if you happen to find a space to park your car, then you have to watch it doesnt get bashed and battered by the hoards of cow like holiday makers who all flow from north to south down the high street!
As a town on it''''s own the facilities are excellent, there are a couple of supermarkets, so you have a nice choice, along with the usual Boots, New Look, Peacocks and other such lower key high street stores. There is a fab toy shop called Gamleys so christmas and birthday presents are always available. I think every bank is represented in Burnham, along with a couple of the bigger building societies. The pubs are pretty good and there is an abundance of take aways..There is a swimming pool, library, mechanic, pertol station, even a hospital!!
BOS also has an old style cinema that occasionally shows the latest films, just before they come out on DVD!! but for a nice bit of retro entertainment, its worth it!
As someone who has a yearning to live by the sea, Burnham is a good choice, however, if, like me, you dont like the incoming herds of holiday makers, it might be worth considering moving away during the summer!!
