Wellington used to be a thriving little woollen market town, but it is a lot quieter these days. It was at its heyday in the 1800s. Today it still has a few individual little shops, including an old fashioned ironmongers and an independent jewellery shop and a fish shop that won Independent Seafood shop of the year in 2007! How do I know this fact you may ask? Well we actually shopped there and couldnnt help but notice. (Incidentally, we bought a lovely piece of naturally smoked haddock and it was delicious!) There is also a farmers market held on the 3rd Saturday of every month, but I havennt visited that so cannot comment.
Wellington is about 7 miles from Taunton so I guess that is the place for big shopping, and it is reachable by regular buses. If you are thinking of staying in Wellington then driving would be the logical way as there is no railway, or catch the train to Taunton and the bus from there.
So places to visit well the Museum was interesting and killed an hour or two on a rainy day and I know far more about the Duke of Wellington than I ever did before. Seriously though if you have an interest in history, it was interesting to see how the town developed thru the woollen industry. And you have the Welllington Monument which is lit up at nightt it is impressive. It is on the highest point of the beautiful blackdown Hills so quite a walk but the views from the top are worth it! If you are thinking of climbing the monument itself though, you better be fit, there are a lot of steps and they are very steep!!

Wellington is a historic Market town starting way back in the 1800''s.
This used to be a very good market town for shopping years ago when i first moved to Telford, but over the past few years Wellington has gone down market. It used to have a huge wide selection of different shops from bakers to Jewelery shops to cater for all your needs, so no need to actually entertain going into Telford town centre itself. Over the past 8 years i have lived here i have seen shop after shop close down due to different circumstances, ie retirement etc......which is noones fault but society and the ever increasing prices of living now.
If you are after a charity shop though Wellington is the place to go,it is overrun with these shops which is a real shame because it used to be a great little Market Town.
The market is still running in the same place which is a really good market that gives you loads of choice from greengrocers to tabacco merchants(tobacco tins and pipes). The market traders sell all of their produce at reasonable low prices for all peoples budgets. The market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday and all week running up to the christmas period in December. There is also a farmers'' market every third Saturday in the Month.
