Uttoxeter is a small market town in Staffordshire (Midlands). It is not far from Stoke on Trent. Joseph Cyril Bamford, the creator of JCB, was born in Uttoxeter and started his business in a small garage in the town. Now the headquarters of this massive company are based in Rocester which is not far away. Shane Meadows, the famous film writer and director, was also born in Uttoxeter and attended the local school - Thomas Alleyenes High School. His film, ''A Room for Romeo Brass'', was partly filmed at Oldfield''s Hall Middle School in the town. The famous Malted Milk biscuits used to be produced by Elkes Biscuits in the town - this had now become Fox''s Biscuits. Shopping is quite poor but improving. There is a market and a Farmers Market is held once a month on the last Saturday of each month. This is really good and is improving and getting bigger all the time. The former cattle market has been turned into new commercial and residential properties. There is a cinema and out of town retail park. The most popular and famous attraction is Uttoxeter Racecourse. This holds the Midlands Grand National. Races are held frequently, weather permitting. There is a railway station and sufficient public car parking spaces. Alton Towers is only about 10 miles away and the Peak District National Park is within easy reach. I like to spend a Saturday walking round the Farmers Market.
