Biggar is a lovely little town on the border between lanarkshire and the borders and as such has beautiful scenery all around it. It is quite a quaint little town and well worth a visit. It has a good mixture of little touristy shops and cafe's. It also contains a couple of museams, a puppet museam and a street museam. It also has a lovely little duck pond which is very popular with children. Just outside of biggar in a hill called Tinto which is well worth a walk up, the views are amazing and its great to stop half way for a picnic.

Biggar is accesable by road located on the A702 and many travel through biggar on the way to Edinburgh as it is a nice road to use rather than the motorway. You can get a bus from Edinburgh, Dumfries and Moffat to Biggar check timetables. Biggar is a busy market town not only for those in Biggar and surrounding areas. Biggar was once associated with gasworks and in respect of this their is a museum which shows you how they burnt coal to get the gases required. there are approximately 4 musuems in biggar itself or nearby. I enjoy walking up the main street as there are different shops here more individual there is a nice cafe its on the right as you come into bigger going to Edinburgh it is popular. There is also a good sweet shop which stocks some older traditioned sweets so its worth a visit. Biggar is also home to the purvues puppets theatre, this is worth a visit for the children i went on a trip once and it was great, we participated in workshops and then saw a production. There is a park with a pond and tennis courts. I tend to go to Biggar for an afternoon out and there is enough to do for that period of time but it is relatively small although would provide a good base to reach both Edinburgh and areas in South Lanarkshire.
