Dunoon can be accessed via land and water. To go by land you would have to via the erskine bridge and loch lomond this is a very scenic route. The other is to travel by ferry from gourock which takes 20 minutes approximately. every time we go we go by ferry as it is so much quicker yet the ferries can be called off if the weather is really rough so check that first althuogh rare it does happen. to get to gourock you can travel obviously by car but also by train from Glasgow the station is right beside the pier. we got off the boat and jumped on the train without having too wait it is a good service. Another unique way to get to Dunoon is via the Waverely which is the last paddle steamer however it only operates in the summer months. this adds a bit of excitement to the day as it is novel. staying in dunoon accommodation ranges from hotels, b&b''s, self catering and caravan paks.
things to do in dunoon include visiting the castle house museum and gardens and benmore gardens which are lovely to see especially when dry. you can also go fishing, sailing we went on what is called the river boat a big dinghy with proper seats it was lots of fun and we managed to see a porpoise. but make sure you wrap up as it can get called its very safe and you get all geared up with waterproofs on and of course the life jacket.
there is a number of places to eat we had some soup which was good in the holy loch in. The staff were friendly and toilets clean. we utilised the bus service which was adequate just make sure you know the timetable. there are a variety of shops, bakers etc. there is quite a lot to do on Dunoon especially if you like to admire the scenery and surroundings.
