helensburgh-it was found in 1776 by sir neil mckenna who at that time had a wife called helen hense the name helensburgh. to ensure people would come to stay in helensburgh hi started a ferry service from greenock accross the clyde. people were attracted as this was a new town. further imiportance of helensburgh is that it was the birthplace of John Logie Baird aka the tv inventor. in recent days it is a commuter town for those working in the surrounding area and glasgow there is a train station. the town is a seaside town there is a large car park be careful though as it is decievingly split into two the half nearest the water is free whereas the top half nearest the shops is pay and display. there is a swimming pool at the car park and the tourist information centre which has lots of leaflets and some lovely gifts including a rennie mcintosh pillow. there are many shops from boots, m and co, woolworths, odd bins, tesco express, jessops, hardware shops etc. the shops are not far from the car park. you can walk along the prom by the sea. in addition helensburgh has its own golf course where you can view the clyde and the waverely the last paddle steamer visits during the summer. there are various sports on offer including football and rugby. it still is popular with tourists and house prices here are quite high as its not far from glasgow.
