rutherglen is located in south lanarkshire and is the oldest royal burugh in scotland being older than glasgow. it has good transport links by road and rail and it used to be home to coal mining and other heavy industry. another thing it used to be home to was clyde football team now its got a new home in cumbernauld. it still prides itself in having the national stadium hampden park which is not only used for football matches but also for concerts. there is a good number of houses and it has its own rotary club and various churches as well as a town hall and of course schools. the main street has a variety of shops and bank, a hairdresser, pub etc. i went out with a friend here and the locals were friendly enough knowing my friend was local helped. i wouldn't really class rutherglen as a tourist resort though but that is just my opinion.
