Troon is situated 8 miles from Ayr and 10 mins from Prestwick airport. It is a very small town with a fabulous beach with a very small funfair next to it. The beach stretches for miles and its lovely to take a walk along passing all the old buildings and houses.
Troon is famous for its golf course (the old course )situated at the Royal Troon Golf club there are another 3 courses in Troon and each one is very popular with golfers who come from near and far.
Troon has a few hotels, restaurants and caffs which offer excellent menus for children and adults.
It has a main street with a few shops and lots of gift shops/rock shops
There are 5 primary schools in Troon and one college A LARGE SWIMMING POOL.A concert hall plays host to many concerts.
There are no caravan parks in Troon but some nearby in Ayr and Prestwick. There is however plenty of bed and breakfasts .
Troon is also port to ferry services across to Larne and recently to Campbeltown. The shipbuilding industry in Troon ended in the year 2000.This is an ideal place for golfers to stay but a bit on the quiet side so if your looking for somewhere tranquil and quiet then Troon is the place for you.

troon is located close to prestwick airport and approx. 8 miles from ayr. it is in south ayrshire and is home to the p&o express to larne. It has a lovely stretch of beech and the toilets on the prom are adequate. The beech is clean and the tractor cleans it for the start of the season. There is a small car park located on the front where there is also a childrens play area which is clean and safe. The shops are mainly split on a couple of streets and include a pound shop, wh smiths, bakery, along with independent shops that you will see different things in nice jewellery, photoframes etc. There is a nice chinese restaurant on the main street which wasn''t busy when we were there. Troon has a harbour/marina area and here there is a good fish and chip shop who if you return are likely to remember you, giving you a good personal service.
Troon is also home to a famous golf course called the royal troon golf course where championships are held (check for details). For accommodation there is a choice of staying in hotel, guesthouse or self catering. Due to its location Troon is not far from other areas on the coast and can be a good base. There is a railway station in troon which is not far from the beech and makes accessing various places easier ie. getting to Glasgow.
