Godalming is a really pretty little village near Guildford and its a lovely but very sought after and expensive place to live. It has a few shops in the centre tk max, thorntons, Oasis e.c.t and on the outskirts it has a few little independant boutiques. Its a really nice place to go for a day out wher eyou can sit and have a coffee and take in the ownderful achitecture. There is a college there and there is a memorial called Phiilips Cloister, it is to comemorate the radio officer of the Titanic who remained sending a distress signall when the Titanic sank. His name was Jack Phillips and he grew up in Godalming.
Godalming also has a museum so you can explore the history of Godalming. They hold an annual food festival there and various art exibitions throughout the year. Parking isnt to bad there but the centre is pedestrianised so it can be difficult to get into if you need to pick up something large from one of the shops.

Godalming is a beautiful little village just outside Guildford that is famous for its award winning Sixth Form College. Godalming College is the number one college in the country and there are now 5 pupils applying to every one place. Many ex public/private school children go here and the atmosphere and appearance is more like that of a private school. The town itself is very pretty and was used to film scenes in the film Holiday with Jude Law and Cameron Diaz. The students from the college fill the streets at lunch times as do the pupils from Charterhouse school on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons when they are allowed into the village. There are a couple of good Italian restaurants and some great little boutiques. The best shop is Westwood Rocks the jewellers.
The pepper pot is a something to see if you are vaguely interested in history and Charterhouse school itself is pretty magnificent. Though it is only small Godalming has two gyms and a lesisure centre so whatever your routine you can always stay fit!

I have to say the main 2 things that spring to my mind when I think of Godalming is 1. the college and 2. that is close to Guildford. However, it does have character and is a very quaint, quiet place in Surrey and there is more to it than just those 2 things. It has recently been voted 4th best place to live in the UK so it must be doing something right and it is situated right on the River Wey. It is very easy to commute to London and Guildford as well as the 2 London airports (Gatwick and Heathrow).
If you are into architecture then you will love Godalming as it has over 200 tudor buildings which are just gorgeous to look at and makes it a pleasure to walk around. The church has both a Saxon and Norman tower.
Godalming is also famous for the number of public schools it contains including Charterhouse, Priorsfield and St. Hilary's. Charterhouse is a famous public boarding school containing both girls and boys. Priorsfield is an indepedent private girls boarding school and St. Hilary's is an independent preparatory schools for boys. Godalming College is also in the area and is a mixed sixth form college.
