Guildford is a very charming large town in Surrey. It is located about twenty five miles from London. It is very easy to get to London- just take the A3 if you are driving, or take a train if not. Other nearby towns include Farnham, Camberley, and Woking.

Guildford is, first and foremost, a residential town. The town has many beauitful places in which to live. This is not least because it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are of course families and couples living here, but the town has a large student population, due to the fact that it is home to the University of Surrey. This university has about 20000 students. Of course, this is a great contributor to the local population.

As a student town, Guildford has many shops, bars and restaurants, and there is quite a lot to do. For example, in Guildford (and very close to the University) there is a cinema and bar complex, with nearby parking. There is (a little further from the university), a leisure centre, that is probably one of the best in the country- The Spectrum. This leisure centre features a swimming pool and an ice rink, as well as the usual tennis, badminton and squash courts. The ice rink is home to the local ice hockey team, The Guildford Flames.

The main part of the town centre is The Friary, which is a shopping and eating complex. Here you will find all of the high street stores, like HMV, Holland and Barrett and McDonalds, as well as some innovative start ups, like a smoothie bar.

Outside of The Friary, there are two main shopping streets, whcih feature shops such as Waterstones, Argos and Burger King.

Guildford is a lovely place to be from its trendy nightlife scene, quality shops and retaurants to its cobbled street and canal.

It has large shopping areas with both indoor and outdoor shopping areas, although some of this is on a steep hill! The canal, at the bottom of the town, is lovely to walk along on a sunny day - very popular but still tranquil. Guildford is an old market town and has a lovely cathedral with a statue of an angel on its roof; this angel is lit up at night and can be seen from quite a distance away. There is a great ice skating rink and swimming pools plus a theatre here.
Guildford''s location is perfect for a trip into London as its only a 40 minute train ride into Waterloo and is on the direct line to Portsmouth. The A3 runs beside Guildford again giving direct access into London or going the other way it will take you south into Portsmouth

I grew up and went to school just outside Guildford so it was where I began my working life as a Saturday girl in the Saxone that used to be at the bottom of North Street! Guildford is an upmarket sort of town with a large variety of shops from the better end of the market. Not too many 99p stores to be found here!!! I love all the shops but find shopping in Guildford a nightmare due tot he hill and cobbles - especially now I have a double buggy with me! The thing about Guildford is that you can stand in the town centre and look out over the hill to the greenery of the outside world including the Cathedral which sits on top of a hill looking over its city. Good rail services. Great place to socialise with everything you may want from Macdonalds to posh restaurants and plenty of clubs and bars. Take a stroll by the river on a sunny day and enjoy this town.

Visited the town when my friend was at University. The campus was pretty amazing but confusing and the forms were tiny and the kitchen was in a horrible state. Guildford is in Surrey and is 31 miles away from London. Guildford has many attractions, one of the main attractions is the Spectrum which is based near the Uni. It has loads of activies, ranging from ice skating to ten pin bowling to pool. There are also some swimming pools. The nightlight in Guildford is really good, bear in mind this is a univeristy town so there is a lot of students out and about. The local Nando''s is always packed and the nightclubs are full of hot and sweaty students. Guildford has a shopping centre which is huge has loads of shops and has a great variety. The McDonalds in the shopping centre should be avoided unless you want to puke though. The George Abbott is a fantastic pub and the manager is a great laugh. This is one pub not to miss and the food is pretty nice and cheap too! Guildford is very historic and there are lots of places to visit around Guildford so its definalty a place to consider visiting for a weekend however its very busy and full of students so beware!

Guildford is a really pretty little town, with its cobbled streets it reminds me a lot of Bath. Id love to live there but its expensive and you can see that by the expensive cars people are driving. There are loads of shops and two main highstreets with lots of liitle cafes and smaller shops linking in between. There are two malls one is called the Friary which contains various eateries and high street chains and a smaller walk through centre with a blooming marvelous, Trotters and Hawkins Bazzar. North street has a street market open on weekends and at the top of town (the steep hill) there are various designer stores. A good place to find maternity wear with Fomes, Gap and a large section in Blooming marvelous. Its a very vibrant place with lots of young hip tendy types and has a huge House of Frazer with a lovely rooftop cafe which is very child friendly. There are plenty of childrens toy shops with a mothercare Early learning centre and a large toy shop all situated next to each other opposite the street market. The friary has little red cars you can push your kids around in and gives them a balloon too- all for free you just need to leave them some ID so you dont run off with the cars. All in all a lovely place to go.

Guildford is a lovely little market town in the middle of Surrey. It is known as the capital town of Surrey even though the official title is held by Kingston-upon-Thames. It has a famous cobbled high street that is full of great shops. The quality of shops in Guildford is high as with its close links to London there are many wealthy people living there. The high street has lots of beautiful old architecture all the way down it. The most well known being the Guildhall with its large black and gold clock that hangs out over the high street and which has become a landmark for the area. Tunsgate Arch is also worthy of note and it houses the only permanent fruit and veg stall in Guildford. There are many supermarkets but no greengrocers so the stall is the only independent place to buy fresh produce. Once a month there is a spectacular farmers market that sells amazing local produce and there are always great tasters to be had.

The nightlife in Guildford is mainly centred around pubs and bars which in my opinion are some of the best ever. The Kings Head is a great pub for a few drinks though it is getting a bit too pricey. There are only three clubs in Guildford none of which are really worth going to unless you are 15 or a chav or both. Stick to the bars and you can have a great night as they stay open late.

My girlfriend lives in Guildford so i know it quite well. It is a large town with loads of shops and places to see. In the centre of the town there is a large castle that is very impressive and well worth a visit. If you go to the top as well you can see the whole oif Guildford and what a site that is. It will cost you one pound to scale the dizzy heights of the castle but it is well worth the visit. The musuem in Guildford is of excellent quality as well. There are lots of exhibitions and attractions to see and visit. Parking will be an issue in Guildford, i have often come back and found a ticket on my window for one reason or another. Guildford boasts and excellent sports and aquatics centre that is also worth going to . The eateries are also of high standard, my particular favourite is Cafe Rouge, although it is a chain i think that it is a really nice place to come and visit. The cinema is also large and the seats are comfortable. Well worth going to visit.

Guildford is a large Surrey town that is a great place to go for shops. A large number of people live there and many people travel in to go to the shops and use the other services like cinemas etc. It is not far from London and easily accessible to.

Guildford is the capital city of Surrey and rightly so in my opinion. Firstly the shops are excellent (minus the massive hill) and it is nice to have both a shopping centre and a good selection of shops outside so you don't get too bored. It also has a nice atmosphere compared to a number of towns nowadays with its cobbled streets and river. Nightlife is good with bars and clubs such as Harpers. Has rather a "sloane" feel with a number of boarding school kids roaming the streets from schools such as Cranleigh, Charterhouse and Priorsfield. Lots of yummy, high street restaurants. Nice place to live in general as it is also only about a 40 minute train ride into London Waterloo.
