I lived in Sunderland all throughout my childhood and it wasnnt until I moved down south that I realised how much nicer it is to have sand on the beaches which is a good thing about Sunderland, but the trouble is the weather is so much colder so you never seem to be able to enjoy them as much as we should. Shopping is quite good in Sunderland there is the bridges which is constantly being refurbished so there is lots of interesting new shops. Sunderland has a university which attracts a lot of students each year. The students therefore also appreciate the many pubs and clubs in Sunderland town centre. Sunderland has its own empire theatre and the plays are usually really good so definitely worth visiting especially at Christmas time. There is good links out of the city as there are buses and also the metro which is quite cheap to go to Newcastle for a day out.

Sunderland is a brilliant city. There isa really good shopping centre called The Bridges which contains a huge debenhams. The main shopping area is home to a wide range of high street shops, fast food oulets and restaurants. There is a good amount of parking available in the city centre and just outside too.

Sunderland has its Empire Theatre which attracts many famous acts and stage performances. Sunderland is also home to the famous Maccem Black Cats football club and its ground The Stadium of Light, my husband is a season ticket holder and he loves sunderland! Saturdays are always busy in sunderland when the team are playing at home so take that into account when planning a shopping trip or visit.

Sunderland has many pubs, bars and nightclubs, infact too many to mention in this review, just know that its a fantastic night out, some places are cheap as chips while others you have to pay to get into. There are themed clubs like Flares, JayDees and Idols.

It is also home to a few lovely beaches, seaburn and roker are really nice and it is also home to the Sunderland Internation Airshow every august, which attracts many visitors from all over the country and world, and is a must for airplane enthusiasts.

Outside of the city centre there are a number of not so desirable areas but everywhere has those, but dont be put off by those as overall Sunderland is a really lively, cultural place to visit.

I used to live in the sunny sunderland for 17 years in a little place called town end farm , every one is nice and friendly there. Sunderland has really been revamped over the years. The night life has changed soo much, venturing out with new funky bars ,clubs and restaurants. Blu bamboo is my favourite nightclub its right in the heart of the city centre and atrracts people around the age of 18-30 and holds some great foam parties.

Sunderland has 2 lovely beaches tooo, Roker beach and seaburn beach the sand are lovely and attracts all sorts of people and visitors in the summer. Every june/july time at the beach the famous sunderland airshow is held. It gets really busy and theres various stalls open that sells burgers, chips and candy floss etc etc, ther is the rockets at the airshow the colours that come from them planes are amazing, the crunchie still flies there to, theres a guy strapped standing to the front of the plane while its flying, its amazing to see. its also has its own little fair grown with various rides for kids all ages. The dodgems are great, theres about 5 or 6 different sets of ammusements here too great to spend the cash on.

Every year a carnival is held and it travels throughout the city centre with some great bands and acts on it. It attracts alot of attention, the times of the years change so i advice you call the local council to check if you want to see i or take part.

Hoppins also comes to sunderand once a year usually in the summer to a great huge portable fair ground that you can not miss.

It has a great university tooo, i personally havent studied there but ive eard some gret things from friens about it.

Theres also a shopping centre called the bridges with varios shops in to shop to your hearts content. Over all its a great city and i would moe back here in a flash.

Sunderland has lots of cheap bars and clubs, which is probaly why so many students come here each year to drink. Newcastle not that far away and because of the good local transport it''s only a stones through. Mowbary Park is a real attraction for familys, and when its sunny it''s lovely to go and walk around, so if you are down there take a picnic and really enjoy the day. There are also lovely beach''s for you to have a gental strole along and for the child in you there are the usauall sea side attraction. For the keen historyion there are plenty of listed bulidings like Penshaw Monument. For the shopping king/queen in you there are plenty of high street shops.
Sunderland is known for been a bit rough but usally only on a night out, on the hole its a nice place.

Sunderland is an alright nightout. They have plenty of bars and clubs, which are ideal for all the thousands of students who flock here each year. As well as the numerous bars and clubs, there are also plenty of highstreet shops to browse, as well as many attractions. Newcastle is only 20 minutes away too which is always a great trip. As mentoned, the mowbray park is a nice place to retreat too, its popular with many students in the summer, as well as families who like to feed the ducks and indulge in an ice cream.

I want to state that Sunderland is dreadful, but i cant. The reason for my opinion is that as i have spent alot of time in Newcastle, and i have learnt that Sunderland is seen as its competitors as well as my own. Nevertheless there are a range of attractions that people can indulge in, whether its a trip to the nearest beach, a browse at the numerous listed buildings, or to take a relaxing trip to the mowbray park, which is delightful in summer, especially for having a picnic or bbq. There are plenty of restuarents to choose from if you want a bite to eat as well as small takeaway branches if you want to grab something fast before hitting the nightlife. There are plenty of pubs bars and clubs to choose from, each differs from one to another providing entertainment for all, despite what kind of music you like. The prices are also generally cheap, which is great news if you are a student in Sunderland. Sunderland also has some wonderful highstreet shops to choose from, so that you can keep up with all the latest fashions. Although i do think Newcastle has a better range of shops to choose from, and with Newcastle only 20 minutes away, its easy to jump on a train and make the short journey to the toon if you cant find what you want in Sunderland. I have had a few good nights out in Sunderland but i can say that the locals arent that friendly and many of them are up for fighting, overall though i dont think its such a bad place.

Sunderland always gets a bit of a bad rep but i shall stand for that no more and will stand up for it.

Attractions-
We have some lovely beaches with all of the usual beach front attractions such as restaurants, amusements and fish and chip shops.
The Empire is a really nice theatre which attracts a lot of well known stage shows and comedians such as jimmy carr.
The new olympic sized swimming pool has just opened which is one of the few in the country and has a lot of very impressive leisure facilities.
Loads of really nice parks one of which is mowbray park which is connected to the winter gardens which is a free museum.
There is also lots of historic buildings such as St Peters and Penshaw Monument.

Nightlife-
The city centre has loads and restaurants to suit all tastes one of the best being the panda which is an all you can eat oriental buffet which is very good value for money.
There are loads of nightclubs and bars whatever you are into and drinks prices are pretty decent.

Shopping-
So lately it was in the news that footballers wives were apparently telling their boyfriends/husbands not to play for sunderland because the shopping is rubbish. So they send a wag up here to try it out. However the report was the most biased thing ever. They sent her to the pound shop and that was it. Firstly which city doesnt have a pound shop? Secondly there is obviously more than a pound shop but obviosly the report didnt want the rest of the country knowing that. We have all of the major high street shops including topshop. h&m, river island, usc and new look most of which are in the bridges indoor shopping centre. There is a large debenhams department store if you want a few more brand names. However if you want something a bit more designer there is eleven and van mildert. So basically we have shops to cater to everyone. There is loads of parking in the city centre and traffic isnt too bad in the city centre either.

So in general the city aint too bad. Obviously its a large city and not a small rural country village so it does have its bad parts and its good parts but in general it aint a bad egg.
